National Rifle Association files for bankruptcy, NRA will legally move from New York to Texas

How so?
If it is the female context; I get it. Guys do the ‘accuse’ too; they use the ‘authority’ voice when speaking, gals use the ‘so pretty’ silk voice.
Either way; it is wrong; and yes. Some people have very professional, and truthy sounding voices.

It was the first time for me; I did some research; person had done it to a half a dozen others. Same pattern - relationship; then go and swear out a protective order.

Background check your relationships. Person had been involved in six previous incidents; all the same pattern. Date; relationship; then downtown to ask a Judge for a protective order.

Sans violence; or actual psychological harm; protective orders are not teh way to end relationships.

First thought on the headline - so they’re going to stop lobbying and just outright support militias now?

Dale, the NRA is a Washington D.C.-based organization. Are you tellin’ me you support Washington D.C.?

It’s one thing to declare bankruptcy; it’s another thing to have the courts grant it. Bankruptcy is a protective remedy granted by the government, not the individual or private organization. New York State may deny the application due to the State investigation the NRA is currently subject to.

Could this be some sort of barely-legal dodge to avoid liability for some nefarious goings-on or (dare I say) something border-line illegal? Just sayin’.

But the gun control laws they especially supported were ones which put a lot of arbitrary discretion in the hands of local officials for permits/registration… for the purposes of keeping guns out of the hands of blacks, and later immigrants. All in line with the association the group had with ones like the KKK.

This old College Humor video may be too kind to the current NRA, but it’s still pretty on point…

It seems reasonable to dismiss their petition to reorganize in another state. But then we haven’t heard the ways o’ enjoying the gold that is the FBI …warrants? something Xeni tweeted…Capitol Invasion peeps are booking.

I had understood they were okay at connecting members of a locale.

So what should Preet Bharara do when this crosses his desk (as an informed adjunct to the current D.A., district peeps, etc.)? Flat no to c.13, grace notes on c.9? Tart it up for reception and run it as a for-profit Jesuit school?

Using a song by .38 Special against the NRA. Nicely done.

The NRA that my grandfather belonged to was for sportsmen/sportspeople and taught gun and hunting safety. That organizational mission is long gone

:joy::rofl::joy: That was amazing and I hadn’t seen it. Thank you for sharing. I miss College Humor. Yet another early-Internet gem killed by tech billionaires. At least we got Adam Ruins Everything from the rubble.

The NRA has been crazy balls so long that my grandfather and great uncles resigned their membership in protest fifty years ago.

I concur. My father is a now-retired State Highway Patrolman who renounced his NRA membership in the early ‘90s because their anti-legislation rhetoric had taken a certain anti-LEO bent. They course-corrected when they realized that LEOs were some of their biggest supporters and the frontline of white supremacy enforcement, but they have been unhinged and lashing out at any sniff of dissent for a long, long time.

This is similar to a discussion in a different thread about the infiltration of white supremacist and anti-government organizations into the military. The fact is that these organizations have always been hotbeds of these type of goons and many were founded explicitly on those very principles (Texas Rangers, anyone?). I only say this because it is really important that we not delude ourselves into thinking this is a temporary crisis with easy solutions. It began in 1492 and although progress has been made, it is mostly superficial; the deep roots remain as strong as ever and must be scourged out of existence if civilization is to prevail.

But will that crooked AG still be there when they arrive?

That’s the whole plan, isn’t it?
