The helicopter crew was probably overhead because they were curious and bored with whatever else was happening that night and came sightseeing.

This is cop SOP in SoCal. They were using police helicopters to break up parties when I was a kid back in the late '70’s. I see nothing has changed.

Re: The older TV story, WTF? It was all in fireworks form, which are stable. Take them out to the quarry and detonate them.
The maximum detonation is 25lb, and they put in 42lb? Can you idiots not count?
