More proof that history is lost on American leaders.

I am embarrassed to be a registed Democrat and have a Democrat anywhere propose this. This is conservative’s wet dream filtered through ignorant neoliberalism.

I know we need every Dem we can get now, but if someone has to explain why this is bad to him, he shouldn’t hold the office

He’s a DINO.

ETA: If this goes forward, will people be able to vote for the people who run the companies? No taxation without representation after all.

Second time in a week I’ve called on Johnny to sing about it.

I’d like to go a day without something that screams “dystopian science fiction” coming up in the news.

A one trip to Vegas should deter anyone human from thinking that’s a good idea.

Came here to mention this, but also want to include a more detailed look into what Walt really had in mind for EPCOT.

Defunctland did an amazing job on Walt’s history, ending with this episode on EPCOT and Walt’s plans. It’s 45 minutes, but extremely well produced.

Wasn’t this tried in Honduras only to create extreme disparities as the businesses simply made getting rich legal and fuck everyone else. Which in turn created gang problems that no one fixed. That cause people to migrate out of the area for the sake of their lives only to get to the US and be put into camps?

This is such a bad idea

The real question is whether these high-tech burbclaves will offer high-speed pizza delivery. Shit sounds straight out of Snow Crash.

No, no, they’ve totally learned their lessons. Pullman is the past. Think…Hosaka!

Now that they’re bringing back company towns, how long until they bring back Esau scrip (note don’t Google that unless you have a strong stomach). But really, if they are bringing back the old abuses, we should be bringing back the tactics that stopped them, because I frankly don’t see Bezos being more benevolent with that power than Carnegie.

Everyone should keep in mind that the companies won’t own the towns, they’ll lease them from purpose-built LLCs.

A bit off topic, but I feel entitled since it is the accompanying photo- visions of space stations like that always crack me up because they fail to account for the fact that that is effectively the most expensive real estate in the universe. It costs tens of thousands of dollars to lift a kilogram of mass up the well, so imagine what a square meter of that “land” costs to build. There’s no way any of it would get used for luxurious open green space and lakes. Heck, that doesn’t even happen in earth cities. No, a space station would look like Kowloon Walled City before they tore it down, or Gibson’s bridge colony. Not an inch wasted anywhere in all three dimensions.

Wait, it’s not going to be suburbia in space? Though I suppose space colonies would have the most intrusive and authoritarian HOAs you could imagine for safety reasons.

When this fails inevitably and turns to a nightmare, they will all come out and say “SEE GOVERNMENT IS EVIL”.
