New study finds average penis size increased 24% over 29 years

Guessing men have made the study more fun over time. 24% more fun.

Now I wish I’d paid more attention to all those emails I’ve been getting over the years. :slightly_frowning_face:

Controlling for height, weight, age? When you get a result that is mind-bendingly enormous like this you have to wonder what kind of errors have crept in. How were participants selected? Because I’m thinking that is going to have a significant affect on the results. People that are not embarrassed by their equipment are going to be more likely to participate. The increase in the availability of porn over the last 20 years or so is going to leave more men apprehensive about how they measure up. All of this means that I wouldn’t immediately blame hormones or hormone-like chemicals in our food.

It’s kind of like people immediately assuming that hormone-like chemicals are responsible for the decreasing age of menarche when that has always been more closely associated with weight than age, and the US is experiencing an explosion in childhood obesity. I’m not saying that might not be a factor, but you have to control for other factors before you assert that hormone-like ARE the reason.

How many studies relied on self-reporting?

There is an evolutionary theory that the reason us human apes, as opposed to all other apes, have notable female breast tissue is because it’s a secondary sex characteristic; that is, it’s a mate sexual selection factor. (do i need an ellipsis here? nah. besides my ellipsis size hasn’t kept up with these trends)

I so, so hope that everybody got that.

Can we not promote terrible data analysis? I get its a fun headline, but it is also BS.

Their data from the 90s was not significantly different in any measure and actually had higher average flaccid and stretched lengths than their recent data. But sad little men needing to feel big, kept polishing their data until it looked significant.

So you’re saying it’s not the data, it’s what you do with it?

I don’t know, I may have to go out and do some independent fact checking on this one. Think there’s a grant available for it?

Anecdotally, I recall my first penis-having partner, a little over 30 years ago, so within the time frame noted. They actually kind of spoiled me for a while – not that I didn’t enjoy the ones that I played with after that first, but that was a bit of a high benchmark. Guess I should have kept better data.

the average is 6 inches now? after the increase? i thought it was 6 inches 20+ years ago.

i’ve actually heard a variety of figures over the years, so i don’t put too much stock in the precise measurement, but this is the first time i’ve ever heard of the average being less than 5 inches

Extra :+1: for the punning title of that book.

Obviously, all those “penis enlargement” pills that you see advertised are not scams after all, and the widespread adoption of email over the last couple of decades has allowed their sellers to reach a larger number of potential buyers more efficiently.
