Btw, 1978 called for you, and said it wants it’s slang back.
Nah: “Those liberals are too entitled to want to do honest work, so he was forced to.” or “It’s all those benefits that make it too expensive to hire Americans” or something like that.
Yes and it’s annoying as fuck.
They get screwed over, no lube or kiss after and they still support him cause he’ll keep out the “bad” people.
And when those losses do affect his supporters they may not even see the causative relationship. These are poorly-informed sequential thinkers, who view their lives as a series of unconnected episodes where stuff happens to them (sort of like a bad sitcom series). Not co-incidentally, these kind of people make ideal suckers for a con artist.
That sounds about right given that Deadpool has the same power that Wolverine does however his healing factor is much stronger.
I think it will take someone catching Trump on tape admitting that he duped his followers to finally get people to start dumping him - Like Romney and his 47% remarks.
Something like this…
Jared Kushner on Trump’s birtherism: “He doesn’t really believe it, Elizabeth. He just knows Republicans are stupid and they’ll buy it.”
Be careful when bandying that list. Britt does not have a PhD and is not a professor. Britt never made these claims. The essay was originally titled “Fascism Anyone? The title was changed when published on noted crackpot website Rense.com which is also where Britt was given the Dr. appellation. The title seems to come from The Umberto Eco essay “Ur Fascism,” aka “Eternal Fascism: Fourteen Ways of Looking at a Blackshirt”. You can find a short concise version of the 14 points here.
In my view, Umberto Ecco has the superior list and isn’t tainted by Rense and the fake appellation.
Thanks. I definitely skipped over the rense link in my post above in favour of the DailyKos one. I’ve now edited out the Dr. title. I’ll definitely post Eco’s version in the future as well, although the list above also contain a lot of distinguishing characteristics of fascism (Britt’s original article reproduced here.).
It seems a long road to turn a democracy in to a fascist state. But the road to despotism is a short and easy ride. How does your community rate?
Exactly. When I mention to them that Trump gets his suits and ties made in China and Mexico, they parrot some lie about how those aren’t made in America, so he has to go overseas for them. Then when I post a list of companies in America that make them, they either claim it’s a lie or ignore me, and continue to believe their lie. You can’t force someone to believe something they are dead-set against believing.
“No matter what Trump does, his base quickly forgives him”
Tribal mentality.
Ecco’s list is way too detailed and complicated for your typical Trump supporter to even read, much less understand. I’m not just being snarky. It needs to be condensed.
It really is like talking to someone in a high-control cult. You can’t get them to suddenly snap out of it by directly pointing out the inconsistencies because the programming steps in with cognitive dissonance to smooth it over, and brands you as an enemy.
Why would you discuss this with a Trumpster? No matter how simple you make it, they aren’t changing their mind. Racism and anger are important to those folk…
Probably time to admit to ourselves these people are helplessly gullible, and take advantage of the fact by selling them robot insurance, survival seed banks, and Trump Tower coin banks.
In my heart I know you are right, but I can’t help thinking that I can convince them that 2 + 2 = 4, not 167.
The scary ones to me aren’t the cartoonishly racist basement-dwelling trollies, but the Very Nice White People who insist they can’t possibly be racist because all of their black friends at church and that Trump is all about helping kids and LGBT people and improving healthcare; it’s like having a conversation with Ned Flanders who seems to sincerely mean well, but who has created an imaginary Trump in their head and refuses to listen to anyone who says differently.
Can one be an enabler of hate, xenophobia, and racism and remain untainted by that same support? These people may seem unaware of the truth, yet when presented evidence of hate, xenophobia, and racism can we say they don’t share those same values when they refuse to examine that evidence? Or should we just admit that they are simply being two faced about who they really are? After all, the most convincing lies are those we tell ourselves; lies like “I’m not a racist”. Sure, they may seem to mean well but intentions are revealed by actions and not by words.
It very much depends on the person. By no means do I think that every Trump voter is inherently racist, or full of hatred, but I’m sure that some (the “well of course we don’t want them coming here to take our jobs, goodness” sort of people) don’t realize how racist they are. One thing is definitely true, though, and that is that every Trump voter was comfortable voting for a known racist.
OK class, everyone who would like to support this racist raise your hand.
How can we say the ones with their hands up are not inherently racist? I don’t follow that logic.
