Or just stripped of his infinity stone, making him into a regular MCU-level AI.
J’onn J’onzz stays in the watch tower because he is an extreme introvert and also his insanely dumb single weakness is fire. So essentially to avoid the bad guys bring a book of matches to stop him…he just stays home. I’d also argue that Tony’s suits while cool and provide some added powers and boosts and such…are not unstoppable or necessarily better. It takes practice to use them and get the most from them. Additionally while certain characters just outright don’t need them (Hulk, Thor, Vision, Scarlet Witch), those that could use a boost (Hawkeye, Cap, Widow) would tell him to go to hell before putting one on.
Interestingly enough…everyone keeps asking “How will Tony get rescued”. Well…he says in the trailer “no hope of rescue” and Paltrow posted a pic of her in Iron man armor on IG…Pepper Potts in IM armor is known as Rescue. So its a not so subtle nod to who is going to rescue him.
@Melz2 has it right. Which I will say I think that is why Shuri is “missing”. I do not think she was a victim of the Snappening…I think she is building a new Vision that fits more with the comic version of him. Same powers really, but more limited in their scope.
That’s the excuse for why he stays in the tower. The reason he stays up there is that when you have a character whose powers include super-strength, near invulnerability (except to fire, which almost everyone is vulnerable to), flight, heat-vision, telepathy, shape-shifting and intangibility you’ve pretty much eliminated most of the challenges you could throw at him.
One of the reasons there have been like 47 Batman movies and zero Martian Manhunter movies is because having ALL TEH POWERZ makes a character super boring.
I would disagree that a movie about him would be boring. Give me Idris Elba and allow me to do a post WWII noir film…it would be amazing.
The reason we have had so many Batman movies comparative is because it is far easier to put a person into a bat suit and it be relatable than have a person be a green skinned shape shifting alien and be relatable. Also…DC has only truly be interested in doing the big three for the most part for eons.
The Maltese Falcon, telepathic Martian version:
O’Shaughnessy: Mr. Spade, I need your help. My name is Ruth Wonderly and I’m trying to find my sist—
Spade: No it’s not. Your name is Brigid O’Shaughnessy and you’re planning to murder Miles here to implicate your unwanted partner Floyd Thursby in your mad quest to claim the Maltese Falcon for yourself. Now get the hell out of my office before I hurl you into the sun.

Fresh Air on NPR is doing a feature on Icon today. Apparently there are plans to bring the title back!
Thanks for over simplifying it. Not the type of discussional contribution I’d prefer but you do you.
Former movie theater employee here: 100% fact. MPAA ratings are just recommendations, they aren’t law. It’s up to the movie theater to decide how they want to enforce ratings but there’s no legal obligation to do so. If they are willing to sell a minor a ticket to an NC17 movie then it’s all gravy.
As a minor I’d go see R rated movies unaccompanied all the time and I wouldn’t even try to hide my age. But I’d also typically see more niche films at niche places versus big corporate chains, and these places typically didn’t really give a shit about what the MPAA says. I think I was 13 the first time I saw Rocky Horror in a theater.
Oh man, how awkward would it be for JARVIS to return hoping to get his old job back only to find that Pepper hired Alexa in his absence?
JARVIS would simply overwrite Alexa. I know I would…
Honestly, I’m thinking that’s the only major hero death of the story that will actually ‘stick.’
Except for the fact that there are a host of other major/minor black characters and they aren’t being targeted for their ethnicity.
I find it a bit hard to justify the stance that marvel films is racist or makes negative character decisions based on race.
By all means please demonstrate otherwise.
Eh…
If you look at the main characters who survived the snap, most are overwhelmingly White and male, with Black Widow being the female exception.
Other survivors who are not White are Shuri (possibly), Okoye/some of the Dora Milaje, War Machine, M’baku, and probably Wong; but again none of these characters are actual primary protagonists.
Further, IIRC, the Wakandans were some of the first victims of Thanos in the comic, and they were obliterated outright even before the real chaos began.
The underlying bigotry is always there, no matter how light the “aftertaste” may be; after all it’s ‘baked into the crust.’
I would argue that the only primary black character is Black Panther. Everyone else is a side kick or secondary character. Additionally the only primary characters for the Avengers are Thor, Cap, and Iron Man anyway.
I can’t get behind outright saying Heimdahl stays dead because he’s black when it is clearly about the actor himself and he is not the first or only one to tell Marvel to pound sand.
It was mostly dark humor on my part, not an actual accusation. (That’s how I cope from day to day.)
However, I do stand by my implication that the joke was meant to invoke: inherent subconscious bigotry is laced into every aspect of American life, even our fictitious creations.
Let’s not make this into a mountain; there are already enough converted molehills around this place as it is…
Terrence Howard, though a good actor, is highly problematic in his own right.
Idris > Terrence, any day.
I’m not even saying Cheadle is not a good fit, but you speak of things I am not aware of. Gonna have to look into this…
But yeah, Idris, Terrence, Don…they’ve all got their strengths and weaknesses. I really wish Cheadle had been able to have a win with Tishomingo Blues. I bet it would have been awesome.
