Why would someone cause so much trouble?
Only if you forced others to do the same.
Or publicly executed someone for not eating kosher for that matter.
Judaism doesnāt work that way.
What way?
Which denomination were you referring to? As with all religions, there is no singular means of practice.
And as with all religions, there are extremists too.
I donāt have a problem with this. This chap is probably the most moderate Iran has had in that position since the Shah was ousted. This isnāt being done for his delicate sensibilities; itās being done for the delicate sensibilities of certain folks back home.
The political setup in Iran is still that the ayatollahs can veto a presidential candidacy; they still have all those redneck country boys in the Revolutionary Guard to enforce their will. Any number of these people will go into fits of righteous indignation if they see pictures of their president standing alongside a lush Renaissance nude.
The Curia is many things, but they are far from stupid: they know this. They will avoid undercutting the presidentās position.
We donāt force our practices on others. We donāt claim to be universalist.
