Silly me. Of course, shoot first, ask questions later.

So, if we accept the premise that the American health care system is a shameful and ludicrous mess, this whole atrocious debacle makes absolute sense.

<Smug-brag>

Last year I completely severed both flexor tendons on my right hand, middle finger at L2 (palm side, where the finger meets the hand). I received ( without filling out any paperwork other than telling a nurse my name and address) ambulance conveyance to A&E, x-rays, and surgery from the plastic surgery team to completely repair the injury. I received about 10 weeks of follow up physiotherapy and was able to reschedule appointments over the phone in less than 5 minutes when required.

Free of charge.

I am not currently facing financial ruin, nor did I have to navigate a labyrinth of insurance shenanigans. My only interactions were with my care-givers and their only concern was how to best help me as quickly as possible.

I’ve tagged that as a smug-brag but really it’s just a sarcastic rinsing of your messed up health care system. I know I’m preaching to the choir here but the level of preposterousness which even proponents of the single-payer scheme treat as normality is fucking mind-boggling.
