That just makes it so, so much stranger. To insert such a weirdly wrong, bizarre non sequitur… how (assuming the audio hasn’t been deepfaked or something).

Money and mediocrity are my guesses. With a certain level of privilege, there are lots of subjects about which they DGAF. It doesn’t matter to them whether they’re right or wrong, and their supporters/enablers will either ignore their stupidity or take steps to cover it up.
