Oklahoma lawmakers propose a new bill that pays parents $10,000 if a book is NOT banned

Yes. Fascism is fully modern. For example…

Exactly right.

Plus, there are plenty of examples we can point to of what we’d consider “progressive” things in societies in the past. There are societies where men and women were more or less equal, or where the fluidity of genders were fully accepted. Plenty of societies where ensuring everyone had clothes, food, and housing was a given. Plenty of societies that gave forgiveness for debts… etc. etc.

And, hopefully, CA will just ignore the SC because it will lose all legitimacy if it does that.

That would be its own disaster, even if warranted…

  • Supreme Court continues to rip up constitutional protections on the Shadow Docket.
⇒ result, the rule of law is degraded and the Constitution and its protections are meaningless.
    ⇒ result, the Fascists win.
  • States decide to unilaterally ignore the blatantly biased rulings of the corrupted Supreme Court
⇒ result, the rule of law is degraded, and the Constitution and its protections are meaningless.
    ⇒ result, the Fascists win.

Another option is needed. Packing the Fascist plants out of the majority is one. Impeaching some of them is another.

Both of those options require strong political majorities in Congress. Which means stopping the gerrymandering and the voter repression and generally working to keep the GQP out of power everywhere, from local dog-catcher up.

Which means organising, and it means voting.

I got a great idea for Oklahoma. Just stop teaching kids how to read. Stop fiddle-fucking around with book banning. You got nothing to worry about if kids can’t read. For that matter why even educate the little fuckers at all. Just eliminate the whole public school system period. You can stop two problems with one law. Put kids back to work as little serfs, it’ll give them something to do if they don’t have to worry with school. Plus, with kid labor we can get rid of the illegal immigrants because ignorant kids can be put to work for next to nothing. It’ll be good for them to understand how hard it is to work a 12 plus hour day. No time to run around at night fucking, playing or other bullshit. America is ready to go full on knuckle dragging morons. All they need to know is to put a checkmark beside the elephants when they get bussed to vote before they go to their workstations. We can get jobs back in america because even china can’t get by with such nominal pay. Mexicans won’t have any part of this either. This is some by god maga. /s
I wish it wasn’t necessary to say this is satire but there are too many people who could completely embrace such an idea. Maybe I wouldn’t have such a negative attitude but having lived my life in a rural area where education is held in contempt has tainted me. The MAGA maggots have really been working a nerve lately.

You’re not far off. Every time people bring up increasing the minimum wage to $15/hr, they get all up in arms about how 15 yo kids will be put out of work flipping burgers, just like they did. Particularly funny when it’s someone like Tucker McNear Swanson Carlson who’s never done an honest hour of work in his life.

To the extent that sex is absolutely what it is “primarily” about, to use the text of the edict.

See @DukeTrout 's comment above. These laws anticipate unequal enforcement, and are designed to sidestep equal protection issues. If fact, they are designed to end equal protection under the law as a whole.

Goes without saying, of course

I’m certainly willing to go off topic in a thread, but even I think that might be pushing it just a little! I will, however, add a shelf for good bdsm/kink information to my Good Reads profile. (Only one title today, as I happen to be rereading it right now, but will add more later.)

This is the only conservative children’s book anyone needs. All others will be vaporized with negarays.

No “equality”, so no maths either…

Hmmm…that might get me out of PE, so I think I have to reevaluate this whole thing

Nope. Part of the bill already.

I think it pretty much rules out any book on any subject except perhaps mathematics.

I’m not even sure about that.

I sort of do wish the Supremes were on the Supreme Court instead of the conservative chucklefucks that are there now…
