It is so tough to keep a “straight face” when that song comes on during the athletic phase of happy fun time.

Don’t give Trump any ideas. Remember the last time!

If nothing else did it then today really cemented for me that we’re too late, the utter selfishness of people is going to lead to hundreds of more deaths and the NHS collapsing. STAY.FUCKING.HOME

The officials who talked to the newspaper said they believed Weinstein was already carrying the virus when he entered the state prison system from Rikers Island in New York City last Wednesday. He had been scheduled to remain at Wende for as long as eight weeks as officials figured out where would be best to send him. During his trial, Weinstein alternated his time between Rikers and a hospital because of his high blood pressure.

I was reading about Italy’s Patient Zero:

Mr. Ricciardi said Italy had the bad luck of having a super spreader in a densely populated and dynamic area who went to the hospital not once, but twice, infecting hundreds of people, including doctors and nurses.

so analogously, it’s possible that Weinstein could have infected many.

Even in prison, that asshole is destroying people’s lives. There is a special place awaiting him…

Another thing about this virus is that it is new. We do not know it, we have no history on it to predict it’s actions and effects. Which leads to this:

Senators Mike Lee and Mitt Romney of Utah, Rick Scott of Florida, Rand Paul of Kentucky and Cory Gardner of Colorado are all quarantining. For the moment the Senate is effectively comprised of 48 Republicans and 47 Democrats.

So yeah, I agree with @teknocholer that McConnell is about to do a 180 on the rule about remote voting.

They are a group of young innovators from Rosario and created a low-cost artificial respirator to fight the coronavirus

In the face of the pandemic, they thought about how they could help. The answer they gave can save many lives. One of the main problems faced by countries like Italy and Spain, in addition to infection, is the collapse of their intensive therapies to attend to the most serious cases.

hey now. don’t bring the constitution into this. the constitution is no place for strict originalists. you should instead claim what the founding fathers meant to say using a bunch of quasi-contemporary letters about subjects other than the constitution.

for examples: please see pretty much any of antonin scalia’s supreme court decisions, and of course the entire trump impeachment defense. for the original originalist method see pretty much the entire new testament.

So Spain is apparently deploying their army to help deal with the ongoing crisis and now I’m wondering if the country funds its military by having them moonlight as male strippers.

My doc just put me on Azithromycin, 500mg, five-day course. I have a cough. I’ve had a cough for about 10 years, diagnosed as allergies plus asthma, which I could have treated with an inhaler but I wasn’t happy with the expense and the steroids, so I’ve been living with that. Now there’s this new cough, which is only slightly worse than the old cough, but something’s going on, hence the pills, the isolation, and the watchful waiting. Slightly swollen lymph node on one side of my neck, no fever, nothing else. I went for a four-hour hike today (and came back to 85 new replies on this thread!) and I feel fine.

Also note: Harvey was in prison, yet had access to COVID testing. Do you think that privilege is available to other prisoners?

Apparently yes. The Yahoo news story says that 40 Rikers inmates have had positive test results. (It does not say how many prisoners have been tested altogether, or what criteria were used to decide who gets tested.)

After all this blows over, I wonder if I could make Germany’s Right of Return policy apply to me.
