Ongoing coronavirus happenings

I think that should be an “and”, not an “or”.

I’m looking forward to seeing other mods of that photo.

Yes. It seems highly unlikely to be a good solution on a technical level as well. That is also a bit down in the weeds for policymakers.

It seems to me that if this is for contact tracing, even being able to say “these two Bluetooth devices scanned each other and were probably 5-20 feet apart” is going to be superior to conventional methods (assuming the majority of people have a Bluetooth devices with the protocol enabled), even if it isn’t perfect (“Oh, you were exactly 7 feet apart? No worries then.”)

And if you live in a city that thinks this is a bad idea? Well, fuck you I guess.

Yes, there’s that as well, and plenty of room to account for false positives and negatives.

Luther started a whole thread for this discussion too.

Probably doesn’t matter, because we’re out of cake. We only had three bits and didn’t expect such a rush. So your choice is “or death.”

ETA: And holy shit! I had no idea how vicious the online attacks are against Stacey Abrams until I searched for the above image. How vile the RWers are!

Perhaps not as bad yet as the tweets represent:

  • Healthcare facilities will soon be able to resume elective surgeries.

  • Will allow gyms, cosmetologists, massage therapists, fitness centers, bowling alleys, and other indoor facilities to take care of administrative items while the rest of the state is under shelter in place. They will be permitted to open on Friday, April 24th for minimum basic operations.

    • Local action cannot be taken that is more or less restrictive with regard to these reopenings, Kemp said.
    • Not opening for business as usual, but under certain restrictions, including social distancing requirements.
  • Theaters, restaurants, and private social clubs will be permitted to open on Monday, April 27th for minimum basic operations

  • Bars, clubs, and amusement parks will remain closed

  • In-person gatherings at places of worship are allowed, but under Phase 1 must be done under strict social distancing guidelines. Kemp did encourage a continued effort to conduct phone-in and video worship

It looks like a lot of these places “opening up” won’t be taking customers yet. However, it will mean that some people who were previously sheltering at home will have to risk going out more frequently to go to work and it sure seems like they are preparing to let them fully open up too soon.

Once it gets to the other side of the board, it turns into a queen, though.

I can’t be happy about that, but it should get lots of publicity. Lots and lots.
