Ongoing coronavirus happenings

These people should sue.

For all of us.

But not exciting or newsworthy in the way that a handful of paid perambulatory colons are.

At least someone is saying this, even if Trump and his handlers won’t act on the message.

“There’s a possibility that the assault of the virus on our nation next winter will actually be even more difficult than the one we just went through,” CDC Director Robert Redfield said in an interview with The Washington Post. “And when I’ve said this to others, they kind of put their head back, they don’t understand what I mean.”

“We’re going to have the flu epidemic and the coronavirus epidemic at the same time,” he said.

Having two simultaneous respiratory outbreaks would put unimaginable strain on the health-care system, he said. The first wave of covid-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, has already killed more than 42,000 people across the country. It has overwhelmed hospitals and revealed gaping shortages in test kits, ventilators and protective equipment for health-care workers.

In a wide-ranging interview, Redfield said federal and state officials need to use the coming months to prepare for what lies ahead. As stay-at-home orders are lifted, officials need to stress the continued importance of social distancing, he said. They also need to massively scale up their ability to identify the infected through testing and find everyone they interact with through contact tracing. Doing so prevents new cases from becoming larger outbreaks.

Asked about the appropriateness of protests against stay-at-home orders and calls on states to be “liberated” from restrictions, Redfield said: “It’s not helpful.”

The State Department has been sending these out with little change in the wording for weeks. I have a bunch I need to clear out of my inbox. I know I’m on my own when time comes to return home, but I still think the decision not to fly back when the travel ban was first announced (and the airports were jam packed) was a sensible one, despite the several months of separation from my family.

If I still read anything, I think I would read his kids books next, they sound like fun.

Well Lindsey, now may be an opportunity to reflect on how you’ve spent the last 20 years of your life. Particularly as it pertains to the concepts of “reap” and “sow”.

The whole essay is worth a read.

It’s all got to change. If we come out of this crisis with all the rickety, fly-blown, worm-eaten old structures still intact, the same vain and indolent public schoolboys in charge, the same hedge fund managers stuffing their overloaded pockets with greasy fingers, our descendants will not forgive us. Nor should they. We must burn out the old corruption and establish a better way of living together.

Why, Lindsey Graham, I do declare! Even a broken clock is correct twice a day.

Where’s John Stewart when we need him?

Every three months or so, Lindsey Graham decides he wants a blow job from the media, so he tells them something they’ve been waiting for a “responsible Republican” to say (what, a Democrat said it? BOOOORING! SNORE!), gets several rounds of fellatio, recants the next day and goes back to spewing contrail crap and racist filth.

He does not pull his punches, does he?

Because anything that he feels worth doing is half assed at best.

From The Local:

Some of the legal measures currently in place in Sweden include a nationwide ban on public events for over 50 people, a ban on visiting elderly care homes, and rules requiring cafes, bars and restaurants to offer table service only and limit crowding, for example by spacing out tables.

Edit oh…

All schools, kindergartens and universities are to close. Most public events are banned. Bars and restaurants will be closed, except when they can keep customers at least one metre apart. With a drastically reduced number of customers, many are closing regardless.

In Finland we can only get takeaway.
