multiresistant bacteria are fair game for this thread, right?
They looked at antibiotics with different mechanisms of action: some that worked by inhibiting DNA synthesis in the bacteria, others that worked by inhibiting protein synthesis, and others by inhibiting cell wall synthesis. They found that the antidepressants they tested induced resistance to multiple antibiotics—within a day.
That’s not encouraging. Requires further study, of course. But this is a route to acquisition of resistance i have never heard of, nor even considered, before. I am increasingly convinced I applied WDKS way too narrowly.

FDA Approves First Drug That Can Delay Onset of Type 1 Diabetes | FDA.
“Today’s approval of a first-in-class therapy adds an important new treatment option for certain at-risk patients,” said John Sharretts, M.D., director of the Division of Diabetes, Lipid Disorders, and Obesity in the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research. “The drug’s potential to delay clinical diagnosis of type 1 diabetes may provide patients with months to years without the burdens of disease.”
