The two-person version of this emoji is often used as a display of friendship, fun, or “let’s party”.

Politeness and asking permission are not seen often in reporting or heard in commentary about that demographic - but the majority of old guys like that are much more polite and respectful of other people than they get credit for. Sometimes puzzled, yes, but that’s not disrespectful, it’s just puzzled.

The polite ones who support progressive policies are just not interesting targets, are they? Who’s going to get upset by an old white guy treating you with respect and agreeing with your policy proposals? You get no clicks from talking about them, it’s better to hunt down the racist ones (plenty of them too) and get some good outrage going.
