Having this brought to mind caused me to recall something I’d wondered about a long time ago, which is the interaction of grapheme synesthesia with non-Latin alphabets.
Two rather fascinating little reads on the subject:
Fascinating. Changed my avatar to the synesthesia version of my name from this website!
Oh, dear. You’ve been a very silly person and, well … now you’ve gone and opened the box!
“What Color Is Your Name?” would be a great album title.
Tried some common color-based names like Violet and Scarlett just to see if they matched their namesake colors. Disappointingly no.
Interesting that Kelly generates a green block, but not a Kelly Green block.
So presumably the synesthetic response to letters is highly individual, so this is just the color of letters for one particular person?
Exactly! Nothing to see here - move along!
This feels like somebody just added a colors to mnemonics. So now to remember some set of facts I have to invent some silly phrase, remember the phrase exactly, associate it with a given set of facts and now add some color scheme to it?
I realize this sort of things works for some people. (The rest of my family for instance.)
Me personally, I’ll just remember it, remember how to Google it or if all else fails write it down.
My actual name’s colors are quite unappealing. That’s fitting.
The coding on this is overall a little rough, it seems to have trouble adding the color for the last letter you entered, so you need to over type and then backspace to get the correct color. Here’s the full alphabet for instance.
I was surprised to see my name right in the middle of the example pic when I never see my name anywhere. Cool!
Not crazy about my colors, though.
You win.
Although … this is my keyboard.
