Whales, always thinking they’re deep.
Yeah - another part of the ‘big whale’ propaganda/conspiracy.
I’m thinking that a black/white wet suit would make for a great shark repellent!
My favorite form of shark repellent is being in a desert.
It worked for one of the characters in Jaws 3(D) for a while.
Hmm…

In other words, orcas jump sharks?
I, for one, welcome our new orca overlords.
We call them killer “whales”, but in fact orcas are oversize dolphins. Dolphins are supposed to be these gentle, intelligent creatures who could be just like us – or for that matter be us – except evolution took a number of weird turns for them. Go figure.
intelligent, yes, gentle they are not. in fact, dolphins are very much jerks!
@Mangochin i love Drunk History and that one is definitely a fave!
I was left with the impression of “wolf” after meeting dolphins. My impression is that the ones that are used to humans might drop by for a sniff; the only wild one I’ve met solo was apparently a bit of a sad story. Once though, meeting a pack of them in open water, I was told to f**k off in fairly uncertain terms. They didn’t actually ram me, but they let me know I was not welcome.
I was going to say “According to popular belief, dolphins are supposed to be these gentle, intelligent creatures …”.
I would posit that for it to be “dickish” behavior, it would imply having empathy and ignoring it. It’s a humorous way of saying the orcas show little to no awareness that a shark is anything other than a great source of calories that can be dangerous. In the orca’s world, a shark doesn’t have any feelings because it is just a dumb, brainless piece of meat with pointy bits that also sometimes eats the same food.
It looks like Jets who cornered a Shark who wandered into the wrong street on the West Side, like bullying, but the missing part is the enjoyment of the misery caused. These are basically like any land mammal predator pack behavior. Like how wolves will figure out a new hunting technique and pass it on. It’s just food and a toy, not anything with feelings to them. Only other orcas have feelings.
Given the overall Orca attitude I find the most surprising part of this story to be that they are bothering to kill the sharks first; rather than just letting the trauma and/or loss of liver function kill them for the lulz.
I’ll really only be concerned if the orcas start extracting the livers from sharks, processing them into pills, and selling them via sketchy websites and late night infomercials as penis enlargement supplements.
