Before all this, I had coincidentally thinking about how wobbly ideas of “consent” were in the '80s and how teen popular culture strongly pushed rape culture. His supporters seem to think that’s a defense of him - when the reality is that it’s just an indicator that there’s a whole lot of men who came of age in the '80s who aren’t remotely suitable for any sort of public office…

I didn’t watch a lot of teen movies as a teen in the '80s, but my response to them was uniformly, “This… is not right.” I have no nostalgic feelings about teen movies from my youth.
It’s not like it was new, either - the teen movies were just more explicit, so their promotion of rape culture was as well.
The lack of suitable men for public office goes back a long ways… we’re just so used to them.
