Out of 8 companies surveyed, only Twitter would rule out helping Trump build a database of Muslims

Who’s ethics?

And is better than a “no” that they don’t intend to back up with fortitude, because in case anyone hasn’t been paying attention, it’s very difficult to fight the government in the government’s own court.

I am.

I am ethics personified /s

That isn’t the definition of a trolley. A trolley is someone who says things just to get a rise out of people, for the lulz it brings them.

I think you also forget that Cory is more of an activist than a journalist. Using hyperbole or at least enthusiasm is part of his activism.

Google?

That isn’t the definition of “works.” “Works” implies that it works technically and is a barrier. It isn’t. Anyone with even the slightest desire to get content without DRM can either find the content (and not have to worry about the DRM) or find out how to remove it. It is trivial. I know plenty of non-technical people that manage it.

Your caricature if both offensive and inaccurate in its implication that the only people that know how to remove DRM or bother to are 400 lb hackers living in their mom’s basement. You seem to be the one driving trollies here, not Cory.

DRM doesn’t really work, that’s been the meta point that Cory and others have pointed out for years. It keeps honest people honest because they don’t care and don’t bother to do anything about it. For anyone with the slightest motivation to bypass it, it is a tissue thin barrier usually broken immediately on release.

I didn’t assume you were being a snark-monster! But thanks for saying so…

I think the large percentage of the population would indeed jam the system, more than Muslims claiming to be non-Muslims, yeah? It would signal how unacceptable this sort of program would be. At this point, Trump can’t “rule by fiat” and the Congress will still be responsive to their constituents, for fear of being voted out of office in 2 years. Keep in mind we already have a no-fly list and I’d suspect that many of those people would already be on a database. Keep in mind that only a quarter or so of the population voted for him - only half or so of eligible voters voted and so only half of them voted for him. He did lose the popular vote, of course.

No. I do think that having people who aren’t what bigots imagine to be a Muslim claiming that status could break the system. But Sikhs and Hindus are often thought of as being Muslims and are attacked as such. I do think that “Muslim” has been racialized and that’s not something to take lightly. I’d guess that an Albanian Muslim would be much less likely to be identified as such.

None of this is a perfect answer of course. This sort of program would need to be protested both in the courts and out in public. Whether this is actually a good idea, I can’t say, but making some sort of public display of how unacceptable this is, both to show our government and to show our fellow human beings our support will matter if something like this comes to pass. As always, the legal course is the first line of defense, but street protests shouldn’t be far behind.

Sure. Of course, at the time, it was harder to untangle religious from economic motives, because they were so tightly intertwined together.

I’m not surpirsed about Acadians having a some Jewish haplogroups among them. As you note, the number of Crypto-Jews feeling to the new world was not insignificant, so it makes sense that they would continue to hide their identity on fleeing to france, too.

Generally, putting profit ahead of public health. So maybe that’s my ethics? YMMV.

Having no comment is not the same as willingness to cooperate. I see no story here.

The persons who posess them, of course.

Yeah, I’m not going to even get into this anymore. I find it offensive that this is where they feel the need to go. There is a big difference between saying that someone that doesn’t have a job and lives at home with his parents has all the time in the world to figure out things the average person couldn’t…and calling all hackers large. I find that offensive. I’m not going to go there or dignify any more responses in this line.

But thank you for trying to explain it to me.

I thought you weren’t responded to me anymore?

try: Suicide Squad 1080p - Google Search

Suicide Squad has been out on BluRay for, what, two weeks? Of course, the web only streaming copies have been up for a couple of months.

This is trivial. Anyone can find this stuff. DRM does nothing really other than fulfill a checkbox on a contract. You can bloviate about it all you want but I’m pretty sure everyone here on this BBS knows how easy it is to pirate things and we have all manner of technical abilities here.

Why don’t you go back to your ranting about how Cory is really a trolley (not you)?
