I think it is just assumed.

This is fucking scary. With each new story like this I feel luckier and more ashamed to have been born white.

Yeah, it’s kind of like the movie Idiocracy, but applied to the police force.

This guy really did want to make a change. But he began to believe that adults are not going to change, their situations only get worse and worse once they are “in the system”. Then think about the more mundane tasks like traffic tickets- where is the joy in that? Then the animosity, people afraid of him, people hating him on a daily basis.

He is intelligent, thoughtful, and a caring family man; staying in the police force just isn’t an option for his mental health. The job really is best suited for sociopaths, unfortunately for all of us.

I see here and have seen it first hand in my (limited) interactions with the NYPD that cops are yelling incoherently and contradicting each other. One will be telling people to leave, another screaming at them not to move.

Definitely something that needs to be addressed in training. Ability to communicate clearly and politely would seem to be a fairly basic requirement - even when adrenaline is running because “scary black people”

I am also a middle-aged white guy who had an NYPD officer incoherently scream at me through my car window. I still have no idea what he thought I had done wrong - he just came running up to my car red in the face, screaming and I could not understand what he was saying. I was literally stopped at a red light in a queue of traffic waiting for the light to change. He was not in a car with flashing lights or siren.

I asked him calmly and politely what he would like me to do and he just kept screaming “move this fucking car or I am going to arrest you and impound the car!”. So I drove into the opposite lane (which fortunately was empty) and took the next turn. As far as I could tell he then went to the next car in the line. To this day I don’t know whether he was having a mental breakdown, was on drugs, or had a genuine concern. That’s why I believe that the ability to communicate clearly and politely even when under pressure should be the primary goal of any police officer’s training.

If everyone did it, the sheer numbers would mean that there wouldn’t be enough cops to get them all.
Therefore, it should be tried…

This is very depressing, so much is wrong here.

  1. These are obviously young teens - pulling a gun is terrifying and cowardly.
  2. Nice neighborhood, broad daylight: I counted at least 3 officers, 2 cruisers with lights flashing, batons out like weapons. Sorry this is f***ing ridiculous, why do you need so many officers in broad daylight at a pool party?
  3. The girl in the bikini looks like 14, just a couple years younger than my daughters. I can’t imagine a grown man, with a gun, wrestling her to the ground. That is heartbreaking.
  4. Later she has cuffs on - for what? Like she has a weapon? She posed zero threat to those officers. What could she have possibly done to deserve that?
  5. Ordering these young boys to lay face down on the grass. More f***ing humiliation. For what? They look dangerous?
  6. I also feel sorry for the one seemingly good cop who the kids handed the flashlight to. I don’t think there was anything he could do to calm down his a**hole partner. Maybe he should have? Do cops get trained in what to do if a partner goes “full rambo” on a bunch of 14 year olds?
  7. I still can’t get over this was a complaint about a “pool party”. Not a “homicide” or a “crime scene” or a “drug bust”. Why are police acting like this at a “pool party”? Even if this were something serious, like a homicide, it’s still uncalled for. The only danger was coming from asshat cop pulling a gun.
  8. The race issue is so f***ing obvious: everyone who is not white, get on the ground on your face. White people, just go move along and have a nice day.
  9. The handcuffs on the girl in the bikini really worry me. Even if she ran away, the police could find her in like 2 hours. She’s a high school student. It would take nothing to get a name and track her down, even IF there was some offense she did.

IF anyone wants to be sickened even further, on CNN right now there is an interview of a lady from the neighborhood calling the rambo cop a “hero”, “he’s just doing his job” and “should get a medal”.

OK, and now for the actual facts.

Residents in a McKinney subdivision were hosting an end-of-school party in their private community pool. Many teens who were not residents of the subdivision began showing up. Some had been invited by residents, some had not. An ad for the event had been placed on social media sites.

Teens who were not invited began climbing the fence to get in, according to reports from residents of the area. Trouble began when they were asked to leave by residents and pool management.

Now, at least one video (below) shows a fight that broke out between a teenage girl and two adults.
Police were called to the scene and attempted to get some of the trespassers to sit down while they investigated. Many of the teens fled and police chased some of them down. This is when the video of the incident with police began.

One resident, Benet Embry, a black man, posted on Facebook about the events leading up to the police call. “Look, I LIVE in this community and this ENTIRE incident is NOT racial at all,” Embry wrote. “A few THUGS spoiled a COMMUNITY event by fighting, jumping over fences into a PRIVATE pool, harassing and damaging property. Not EVERYTHING is about RACE. WE have other issues that NEED our attention other flights of made up make believe causes.”

In another post he is critical of media coverage of the incident. “I’ve never seen such irresponsible reporting and miss management of media resources in my life,” he said.

Another McKinney resident, Bryan Gestner, posted on Facebook, “This was a Twitter party that turned into a mob event. Jumping pool fence. Assaulting 2 security guards, attacking a mother with three little girls. The video doesn’t show everything.” He continued saying the kids were drinking and “smoking weed” and they would not listen to any of the adults around the pool.

“This isn’t about race,” he continued. “This is about outside kids invading our neighborhood and had no respect for authority or the residents here. I have a target on my back now and I have been threatened by these punks that they are gonna shoot up my house when all I did was try to control the mob and actually tended to the girl and the boy that had a bloody lip.”

“Yall don’t know the whole story,” Gestner continued. “I commend the officer for handling this situation.”

Don’t care. The police COMPLETELY lost control of the situation and PULLED A FUCKING GUN ON AN UNARMED BLACK KID. AGAIN. HOW MANY FUCKING TIMES does this need to happen before you start to say enough is enough?

No one said that they had a right to be there or that the police shouldn’t have been called or even that some didn’t deserve to be arrested. The problem is that the police shouldn’t treat a bunch of unarmed adolescents in bathing suits like fucking bank robbers by pulling their fucking guns.

Unless you plan to use the gun, you have absolutely no reason to pull it out. It is not a crowd control device. It is not a tool to scare people into submission. It is a tool to kill people who threaten your life. That’s it.

Brietbart is a racist website that has sometimes redacted ENTIRE ARTICLES for being completely made up - and that’s just the ones they’ll admit to. It’s got staff members who dress up as nazis, actively promote raping women as a way to “cure” them of “feminist opinions”, publish articles with the purpose to encourage stalking and harassment, attempt to “out” people and put their lives in danger, and sometimes literally (and provably) just fabricate outright lies with no basis in reality that they call “news”.

If Brietbart says it’s not racist, that’s more proof that it is racist than anything else. Sad to see the neo-nazi conservatives already out in force defending the assault of a child.

Didn’t Breitbart also infiltrate a protest to get the police to pepper-spray the protesters?

Oh really? Cite evidence please. Brietbart is right-wing, for sure, but it’s an antidote to all of the left-wing sites out there like Politico, the HuffPo, Salon, etc, who do much worse. What about Rolling Stone’s completely made-up college rape story, for example? As far as I am aware, they haven’t even apologized about that. Every website has their biases (and Breitbart are no exception), but they tend to be more honest than not and generally admit mistakes.

Insofar as the pool party story goes - we have quotes on facebook from actual residents who say the police did a good job, and video evidence of police breaking up a fight. All I can see in the Breitbart article is facts being reported. I don’t see any issues with reporting there.

We also have a video that shows that the police completely freaked out, lost control of the situation, sexually assaulted a 14/15 year old girl and threatened to brutally murder an unarmed teenage boy, none of which are justified by “MERCY ME! SOME CHIDINS ARE CRASHING THE POOL PARTY!” There’s some facts for you.

Well, you’re right. But why the biased coverage in the media? Why not show the original fight? Why not preface the report with why the police were there in the first place? Why not interview residents? Or cite the facebook reports of residents? It is because the media is trying to perpetuate this narrative about the Police being bad, after the events of Ferguson etc (where it has since emerged that many of the protestors were paid to be there). I tell you what - if there were NO police, you’d have anarchy in the U.S. They generally do a damn good job under trying circumstances.

And you provide another link to a website that appears to be run by bigots.

Can you not find anyone, you know, reasonable and not a hateful cretin to support your views?

And if donuts fell from the sky like rain, no one would be hungry. (sorry, I thought we were postulating irrelevant hypothesis)

No one here is suggesting that we should get rid of all cops completely. What we would like to see is as follows:

  • Fewer occurrences of cops getting things wrong (deliberately or otherwise)
  • Consequences for when cops get things wrong

That’s it. That simple. In this case, the cop got it wrong. Dangerously so. There is no possible way that lethal force was authorised. Racist agenda or not, This cop is a danger to those he is allegedly supposed to be serving.
