Outstanding rant about establishment pearl-clutching over Trump

Absolutely. He might guarantee the House gets to decide the election.

I donā€™t know if I believe that Will and his ilk have ever ā€œbeen thereā€ to do anything other than create an impression of respectability for what is, in truth, ugly, crass, and barbaric. I think theyā€™ve known thatā€™s been their job all along.
Perhaps now that the racism and sexism is the overt driving force of a winning campaign, theyā€™re worried that their job is now over. Mission accomplished.
Nothing left to justify, rationalize, or legitimate for that small group of conservative readers who feel glimmers of worry about whether any of what they want is justifiable and are willing to be won over by the mere presence of men in nice suits who can type.

Conservatives seem to view their own intellectuals* as self-made, whereas leftist (their wording, not mine) intellectuals are seen as the manufactured progeny of academic brainwashing.

*Not an oxymoron. Plenty of conservatives are smart; some, brilliant. Intellect does not, however, necessarily confer wisdom or empathy.

if Sanders decides to run as an independent.

Wow. You Bay Area folks (by association if not residence) have passed ā€œjadedā€ and hit seventh gear. I donā€™t blame you, I guess.

Heā€™s not going to. Heā€™ll ask his supporters to vote for Clinton, if he doesnā€™t win. Could he even get on the ballot anyway?

I can see a reasonable amount of his vote going to Jill Stein, especially in deep red or blue states where it doesnā€™t matter, anyway (assuming that people still vote Dem down ticket afterwards) - if I had a vote thatā€™s what Iā€™d do - if we get the congressional candidate Iā€™m hoping for, anyway.

He could if he decides soon. There are a couple states he would be ineligible to run in though due to Sore Loser laws.

What is this attraction to Jill Stein? As far as I can tell, she has virtually no political experience outside of losing elections. Is she the leftā€™s Ben Carson?

Her party? No different from Gary Johnson. Left wing protest vote vs Right wing protest vote. If youā€™re not happy with the Dems, whatā€™s the alternative? What Iā€™ve seen of her, sheā€™s seemed pretty good, too.

Some Green congresscritters would be nice, too.

I voted Green in the UK last time because I wasnā€™t happy with how right the Labour Party were runnning and I wanted to help show that there were votes being lost to their left. Iā€™d do the same here.

Hey, she totally won the race for Lexington Town Meeting Representative, two times. (count 'em!)

Isnā€™t Gary Johnson the Governor of New Mexico though? I mean, sure New Mexico has less people in it than live within 25 miles of me, but it is actual political experience.

Oh somehow I missed that. Lexingtonā€™s Town Meeting Representative. Well, I suppose she has more experience than Donald Trumpā€¦ but oddly less than Sarah Palin. What a weird world we live in.

Not recently he isnā€™t. Iā€™ve seen a few UK Tories suggesting supporting him today though - it seems Cruz was okay for them but they donā€™t see Trump as conservative enough. Which is weird, given that theyā€™re mostly pretty close to Obama, policy-wise, and Cruz would be an unelectable swivel-eyed loon in the UK (Hah! Just like here!)

There are some pretty far-right academics too, especially in history, philosophy and economics departments.
[law goes without saying].

In a democracy, someone has to represent racists, lgbtophobes and general bigots, Which is why democracy is only the least bad political system, not the best.

Yeah, and the whole arena is actually pretty conservative, and getting more so by the day, thanks to creeping corporate intrusion and takeover. I should have put quotation marks in that comment. Sorry for the sarcasm fail.

Lawyers are just like anyone else. Some are good people and some are bad people.

The people who smear lawyers the most are the big corporationsā€™ PR departments. They want us ā€œlittle peopleā€ to think ill of lawyers, because the law - as imperfect as it is - is the only equalizer left. People smearing lawyers all the time helps that process.

[ā€¦]

Just kidding! I know a lawyer who freaked out after he stepped in cow manure and thought he was meltingā€¦

I know a lawyer who told me how he sleeps like a proverbial babe, every single night.

First he lies on one side, then he lies on the other.

Iā€™m confused. The DNC already ignored the voters. Also, Iā€™m just a young girl, unwise to the ways of the world, can you tell me what superdelegates have to do with ā€˜ignoring votersā€™?

This would be perfectly exemplified by when Mcdonalds spent millions of dollars on lawyers to sue two low-waged activists for libel (The McLibel trial in the UK.) They comprehensively wrecked the lives of two people - and eventually received derisory damages.
One could hope that the PR department of Mcdonalds spent the time holding their heads in their hands screaming ā€œwhat the hell do you think youā€™re doingā€, but I suspect that in reality they thought it was good PR.
