Overpowered vintage automobile meets a wall

That’s why I’m using a flux transistor.

What, you think I went with the free version of the plans?!?!? Sheesh.

was the suspension minus an upgrade for getting down or wipe outs

It was the knob behind the wheel – always is.

I was hoping for a sturdier wall so his lesson wouid be more…concrete.

Not a lot of people competent to drive something like that and there’s reasons they aren’t street legal many places.

Got to wonder if he has insurance. I imagine most agents would put up the “closed” sign as soon as that thing pulled up or charge into the five figures for liability.

slightly different angle, with additional footage from inside the car show.

Bondo, baby, Bondo. With skill, care and patience you can make it look as good as new. Of course, it never will be quite right ever again, but that 's the way it goes.

With great power comes great responsibility…

Oh, how different Spiderman would have been if Uncle Ben had been someone of the ilk who drove this car in to a wall - “With great power comes a chance to show off how awesome you are! By doing dangerous things where you know you will hurt people if it goes wrong.” Wait, that’s kind of what Spiderman does do… Not sure what to think now…

That’s a damn shame. There are a few places less well suited to driving a car like that than Hawai‘i, but they’re… cheaper to get the car to?

I’ve always wondered if it’s the fact modern tires are better than what came factory. Not to mention a lot of people upgrade to wider wheels, which pretty much mean a tackier tire, and probably suspension upgrades. Burning out with +400 hp on skinny tires wouldn’t be that hard, and probably not that hard to control give the factory suspension on cars like this.

I’ve seen plenty of videos of older, not to be stereotypical but, men getting into modern higher horsepower cars and trying to relive their youth. Except now cars don’t do burn outs or drift like they did +50 years ago. One can turn something like a Camaro SS or Mustang GT into a hoon mobile and give it the finesse and control you want, but it’s not coming from the factory like that.

Besides if we are going down the rabbit hole of over powered V8’s…well America lost to Australia a long time ago.

You have a valid point there, though the car in the OP video is a long long way from stock. But there’s argument to be made that the factory cars were “safer” because they weren’t at all good at putting that power down.

As I always say in these muscle car threads, the originals were terrible cars (even for the time). Bias ply tires, leaf springs, pitman arm steering boxes, drum brakes, ladder frames, it goes on and on. They might have made 400hp at the crank on a good day (at sea level to please the crappy carburetor) but they weren’t even “fast” by today’s standards. The suspensions in those cars especially were already obsolete when they were new. The Germans were already using proper independent A-arm coil spring suspensions, disc brakes, and rack and pinion steering by then. The big three got away with no foreign competition for too long and made very bad cars for a very long time.

Modern cars with that kind of HP are engineered to make it much safer to use. It’s still fairly pointless to have 400hp in a street car, but you’re less likely to put yourself into a wall with it today.

I think this is where the problem arises. Someone who thinks their 2020 Mustang GT will hang the rear end out like their 65 model did will be in for a surprise when the modern version really just wants to maintain traction and accelerate. The same type of thing would be seen when someone who has never driven a classic muscle car with that much added power and tries to get on it and the back end breaks free.

Big smokey drifts are best left for places void of obstacles and people.

I’m afraid I’m not so good at deciphering English accents. Any clue what was said? Besides “Fuck all” and “Not in front of the kids!”

Mainly fookin’ ell (fucking hell)

“Don’t go swearin’ at me not out in front of me own 'owse!”

“Showin’ off eh, that’s why we don’t do it, not when there’s kids around”
