Owl is occupying Raven’s spot in human culture as well. Ravens and other corvids are the real intelligent ones of the bird community, whereas owls are just big balls of swivel-headed belligerence.
At 1:02, the owl looks at the camera with a “WTF is going on here” expression.
Every time the raven flies over the owl’s head, I like to think it’s saying “I’m totally pooping on you if you don’t move, bro!”
Yeah, that was great.
"Are you seeing this?!?"
Raven knows the owl is there to eat its offspring.
“Nevermore!”
The owl: “I can practically turn my head all the way around. I swallow mice whole. Go away, little crow”.
i love the noises the crow is making! i also like how, at the end, the crow needs a drink to soothe its vocal cords from all the vocalizing it’s been doing.
Reminded me of this article (about crows vs owls, but all related): https://www.capeandislands.org/post/crows-vs-owls-enemies-ordained-nature#stream/0
One raven will not put off an owl. Two ravens, and that owl would have been out of there. One would have pecked him from behind while the other assaulted/distracted frontally. The owl would have admitted defeat.
Yeah, ravens and crows routinely harass predators to get them out of their area and avoid being dinner. It’s surprising to see a single raven doing it - it’s rather brave of it to engage without backup.
Owl: “Why the long face?”
'Cos I’ve got nothing to hoot about, and it’s making me raven mad.
On another note, how about that perfect snow-dusted-tile-roof camo?
I encountered this bit of Welsh mythology a while ago about how all birds supposedly hate owls and did not realize it had such a basis in observed behavior.
After this video was a link to a video from 2014 of another pair of snowy owl and raven in a golf course. They interacted quite similarly and made me wonder if they’ve just been buddies for several years.
