Sounds more like a lament for his ancestor’s literal sacrifices for no reason other than god’s approval of the aroma of burnt goat. This is like the animal version of Columbus Day.

In fairness, the Isaac episode tends to rank not too far behind the Job incident in terms of things that make Abrahamic monotheist moralists a little queasy; so you can’t argue with his area of focus.
