When the person in question stakes out a moralist stance that shames both, and actively works to ban abortion it absolutely deserves to be called out. The hypocrisy is part and parcel of the problem here.
What I’m wondering here is: Given what we know about her marriage, that this appears to have gone down more recently and while she was married. How much of this might have been forced or under pressure from the husband? This sounds a lot grosser and sadder than the scandalous headline lets on.
They’re not WHY, but they are prime examples which function as proof.
I used to do drugs, I don’t do them anymore, but I also am not campaigning to be a public servant by demonizing drug users.
It’s like in court: if you present an alibi, you have to accept that the opposing side has the legal right to show evidence of how that alibi is false.
The hypocrisy is a problem, yes. But if we truly believe that sex work is work and abortions are a matter between a woman and her doctor, it means we need to be very careful in making the argument, because how we phrase it can and will reflect on people who have either or both in their past.
I’m not saying this to defend Boebert-- to me, the hypocrisy is absolutely horrible-- but I believe we need to combat her in a manner that’s consistent with our principles. If we don’t, we risk becoming hypocrites ourselves, just like her.
I’m gonna stand way over here with all the other people defending women’s right to bodily autonomy. If she ever decides to come over and join us then all the better. If she chooses to hang out with the people who oppose that kind of thing then that’s her call.
That makes it sound like you’re positioning yourself as being opposite of @anon59592690 and @Nightflyer.
O_o
Many men can and do care deeply about equality and bodily autonomy, but there’s no way it can even begin equate to the level of concern that’s held by those of us who can become pregnant.
By “way over here” I obviously meant to imply that I was positioning myself far away from Boebert’s ideological position, not @anon59592690 or @Nightflyer’s ideological position.
let’s go through this again. pointing out conservative hypocrisy is a worthless endeavor when the GQP simply doesn’t give a shit. they only care that they get supreme court seats.
once we get that through our heads, we can stage better attacks. but until then, enjoy the wasted time and energy.
