Hey - I know that guy! He is one of those renaissance guys who is into a bunch of different things. Made a lot of money in paintball, before pursuing paleontology, criminology with DB Cooper, and he finally finished grinding the 40" mirror for a telescope he was building for the last 20 years.

With paleontology, he has been building laser set ups that scan fossils at various wavelengths and you are able to see details that visible light doesn’t show. Which is what they used here. Neat stuff.
