Ted Cruz’s dad would also be a good bet. He one one of those totally insane Dominionists.
However narrow-minded and awful his tracts are, I’ve never seen a Chick tract recommend cruelty to children.
Which makes these particular tracts just that more incredible.
This doesn’t recommend cruelty, it recommends physical discipline. At that time those two things were not so easily confused.
What? Physical discipline is a form of cruelty. And a damned unnecessary one at that. Kids can be convinced into acting better in a lot of better ways, though they are ways that take more time and effort on the parent’s part. Physical discipline is sometimes the parent’s own acting out of sheer laziness. And worse.
And sometimes a quick, light spank is the most efficient and effective way of getting across that the child has done wrong, exactly like swatting a puppy while your toilet-training it. A spanking/swat doesn’t have to be a beating, and when a child is younger they are less likely to understand a “talking to”. Cruelty takes many forms and no form of discipline is automatically cruel. Cruelty lies in the extremes.
Guess we’ll have to disagree on what constitutes “most effective and efficient.”
