I’ve never understood what God buys with that money, or from whom. Can’t He just create what He wants?

What does an all knowing all powerful being need money for anyway?

If you are in debt, shouldn’t god be kicking in?..

An evil scumbag, to be sure, but one who obviously recognises the financial status of the Americans he’s trying to fleece.

The Catholic Church used to charge people to get their relatives out of Purgatory. It seems we haven’t progressed much. (I realize this is just one guy, but the fact that he still has a congregation, and that there are other religious leaders begging for money for themselves, is significant.)

Tell ya what, I’ll meet him halfway. He can have 10% of my debt.

If the 1% donated 10% we wouldn’t be hearing from this huckster.

Rome, I’m speaking to you too.

So if I donate my 10%, can I expect to get help so that I am not longer short of money, as explained in Acts 4:32-35?

32 The group of believers was one in mind and heart. None of them said that any of their belongings were their own, but they all shared with one another everything they had. 33 With great power the apostles gave witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and God poured rich blessings on them all. 34 There was no one in the group who was in need. Those who owned fields or houses would sell them, bring the money received from the sale, 35 and turn it over to the apostles; and the money was distributed according to the needs of the people.

I take my tithe and go out to nature in the valley down from the quaint river that runs a mile or so from my home.

I sit out in the dusk and listen to the crickets and buzzing insects and birds exist.

I pray to God, and then I throw my tithe into the blue sky that God created and let God take what God wants.

I usually walk around and pick up whatever God leaves and go get a book or something.

Fun Sunday.

Wait, wait. Would it count for him if you donated that 10% to a mosque or a synagogue?

You know, I wonder if people like this ever think about why tithing was a thing in the first place - it wasn’t really about enriching the clergy, but about providing services to the community who might not have other means to keep themselves fed, etc. It was a means of people with more means supporting other members of their community at a time when there weren’t other options in times of crisis.

Which one? Do you have any idea how many First Baptist churches there are in the metro area? Probably like… a billion.

Wealth redistribution in a time before we did such things through governments.

I’d love to see this asshole come to South Africa and tell the millions of people living well under the poverty line that they should donate 10% of practically nothing.

Redistribution from the faithful to the pastor I imagine is as old as religion.

ETA I shouldn’t be so cynical as I have seen churches actually doing proper good. My fav in St. Louis made a point of asking for fans, blankets, food, etc rather than money direct. He did good work for a local TV preacher.
