Kinda funny that his surname means “given as a gift” in Spanish. A gift to comedy, maybe, but not to his marks, I mean, flock.

Oh, for sure, but the old schemes had a bit more… dont know, class? This current brew of used-car salesman like preachers insisting that God personally told them to scam you is so depressing.
Or it may be my perception as ex-Catholic; at least they put on a performance of holiness they dont deserve, but guys like this, not even that.

I was sure that I was taught (in high school Spanish) that regalo is gift (or, “I give”, I suppose) and regalado is bargain, as in, something on sale. Google Translate definitely disagrees with me so now I wonder if it’s only true in some Spanish-speaking countries and not others? Or my class was no good, which is definitely a possibility.

No, dont worry, you are not wrong. You will find it as bargain a lot, like “esto está regalado” being this is very cheap, this is a bargain. Because it is like they are gifting it. If you use it as an adjective, that would be the meaning. If it is a verb, well, is several of the times of regalar, like yo regalo, yo he regalado, etc.
It is just that the adjective didnt work for my stupid joke
