Trump has his base out in the “red states,” but the professional politicians in Washington loathe him
He stole the top spot without paying his dues, he’s an idiot who doesn’t respect anybody, once they have their chance to swap him for the well behaved team player Pence anything could happen
Yes, but to be fair, he’s been in a courtroom before, so he’s not unaccustomed to them.
This is what needs to happen. This is what is empowering him more than anything that the GOP has closed ranks and allowed him to get away with shit that he’s done, with no accountability from the legislative branch. They’ve done this, because they believe it’s empowered them.
There are reports that he doesn’t do well in the courtroom; that he over-shares and throws tantrums (I know, shocking), to the point where his lawyers find any excuse to keep him away.
When it comes to GOP party unity, aside from a handful of true believers, GOP politicians are a bunch of self-serving narcissists who have failed up their whole lives. When it starts to unravel, it will happen fast. I could see factions forming: the Koch contingent, the Mercer bigots, Thiel technotrolls, Adelstein assholes, etc; aligning around their respective sugar daddies.
If you’re ever bored, and you want to hear a story of Trump failing, it’s interesting to look at how he blew his chances at owning an NFL team from bad court etiquette.
I never get tired of reading this:
Trump insisted he and Rozelle were friends. Rozelle insisted he and Trump were certainly not friends. Trump insisted Rozelle wanted him in the NFL. Rozelle insisted he would rather have maggot-infected fungus overtaking his cranial lobe.
almost like there’s 2 capitalist parties with minor window dressing differences pretending to be functional opposing parties keeping one another in check. big if true!
I mean, he does things on at least a weekly basis that would seem to be sufficient basis for impeachment, but…
What I can’t get my head around is that for his supporters, it’s all fine. Their whole ethos is “owning the libs,” so whatever damage he does is part of that, even if it destroys the country in the process.
He lies even when it would be easier to tell the truth. He lies as part of his speech function, as if it is hardwired into his brain. It’s like taking a breath for him. It’s pathological. It’s a feature, not a bug, although the man himself is a bug.
The US absolutely has two capitalist parties, but if you think the differences between Democrats and Republicans are minor window dressing, you haven’t been paying enough attention to politics. Seriously now.
The depositions are a nightmare for his lawyers, too. Watching one of the videotaped ones is what convinced that he’s borderline illiterate above an elementary school reading level (lame excuse after lame excuse about why he didn’t read the contract at the time and why he can’t read it at the moment).
That’s the thing about Trump - as people have pointed out, he doesn’t “lie,” he does something worse: he “bullshits.”
That is, when one lies, one knows the truth, recognizes it has some value, and deliberately avoids that truth. Bullshitting involves a total disregard for the truth - one doesn’t necessary know what the truth is, and certainly one doesn’t care; communication is entirely about saying the “right” things to get what one wants.
That’s Trump. All that he’s ever cared about is what’s advantageous for him; the reality fundamentally doesn’t matter to him, so he’s totally incurious about the truth. (He has other people, in his employ, to deal with reality for him, though it often doesn’t work so well, as he comes in conflict with them.) Bullshitting has become a habit, it’s the non-reality he operates in - he can’t not do it, because the alternative would require him to know and care about the truth. Which he will never do. He probably can’t, because of his narcissism.
You’ve hit upon an important psychological distinction. He’s already started his 2020 campaign with a big ad buy that is complete bullshit about Biden and Ukraine.
To be clear, I close my eyes, think of England, and vote D in most elections (the exception being local ones where a 3rd party or independent has a serious chance at success).
But I also think the Democratic party has severe issues and we need to be more active in the primaries supporting progressives, socialists, and literally anyone who will stop rubbing my shoulders.
