Placerville removes hangman's noose from town logo

My every tattoo was done by my good friend & fellow sailor, I gave him his first rig, bought in a tattoo shop in Panama for $40.00 US, came with ink too. My favorite is the Brough Superior 1928 SS100 [see below] on my forearm, when we were all still walking around some time back, it got compliments often. His work is legendary among the sailors of yore. Next I’d have to go with the two dragons he did for me, each on the underside of my biceps, one is a mountain dragon, and the other is a sea dragon. The rest he filled in over our time at sea, he was truly talented and an amazing artist.

It took me YEARS to find the artist who is doing my arm. He’s in SF and I am in LA, which now makes it even more fun. I am waiting for my second shot to reach out and schedule some of the ditch of my elbow.

I wanted to have my R90s commemorated, and my Parker DuoFold. Running out of space.

Yeah, that was like 1983 or 84 when I had zero real-estate left. I never go in the sun, so they are well preserved, the Ampersands [&], like 200 of them are still as bright as the day he put them there.

Sounds pretty sus, as the kids would say nowadays.

Hey all BB world, the trick for us sailors was, hold onto your hats, Preparation H! Why, it stops itch & the swelling associated with the tattoo right after the deed. Laugh, but it works like a charm.

As well, keep some in the first-aid kit, it will come in handy!

I have some fairly thick salve for days 1 thru 3 or so and then I think I use Nivea.

We can rebuild her, we have the technology.

As a CA native, I can confirm all of this.
Rural CA is just like the rest of rural USA.
Although in the 2020 election, the county map was a bit shocking to me as to which ones did NOT go for Trump. That includes OC, of course.
That “State of Jefferson” thing, tho… Some people up there are not thinking that through. Not like it would ever happen, but if it did, they would be screwed.

I used to find that movement amusing until I learned more about it. They’re basically California’s counterpart to the Bundy family’s movement; a ticking time bomb of well-armed nuts ready to stage a bloody rebellion.

[State of Jefferson movement is a tick away from violence]

yeah. Jan 6 made me reevaluate how seriously I take these people. And it made me start crossing the street away from the one neighbor with 6 cars in his driveway, one of which is a Ford Festiva with an ‘Oath Keepers’ bumper sticker…

I want to drop his address at some sort of tip line…

(of course, Placerville is in Placer county, but it all applies.)
This is what happens when I think, “Oh, that’s obvious, I don’t need to double check that!”

Here’s the FIRST paragraph:

Josefa Segovia , also known as Juanita or Josefa Loaiza , was a Mexican-American woman who was executed by hanging in Downieville, California, on July 5, 1851. She was found guilty of murdering a local miner, Frederick Cannon. She is known to be the first and only pregnant woman to be hanged in California.

That was Placerville’s original name.

The detailed voting data has finally been released for California, and it’s quite interesting to see how close some of those red areas in NorCal were to ticking into blue. Not to say that there’s not still a serious infestation of regressivism, because there is, but the data shows that some hotspots aren’t as hot as they seem from their noise and some areas are trending in unexpected fashions. It was a bit more encouraging than I was expecting.

I’ll admit that due to my white privilege and also heavy exposure to several TV cowboy shows as a kid I personally didn’t immediately associate the “Hanging Tree” in The Nightmare Before Christmas with racist lynchings back when I first saw the film as a teenager, but it’s kinda mind boggling that in this day and age they not only haven’t cut the character from the film yet but you can also buy a figurine of it on Amazon:

These days all I can think of when I see it is that heartbreaking Billie Holiday song Strange Fruit.

Actually it’s original name was Dry Diggings.

But even if its original name was Hangtown, it doesn’t matter. Just like the “original” logo had a noose, it was racist and needed to be changed. Likewise the name Hangtown is also racist and needs to be removed.

Yea, not just there but also in places like Riverside, Imperial and San Bernardino.
We did get a quick refresher on how things are elsewhere when we did a road trip to Yosemite last Oct.
That 99 corridor…
I especially liked the Pro-Devin Nunes/anti-socialism signs.
