Possible PBBB laptop RPG game

Settling into his bunk

I might have missed it in the description, but am I right to assume we’re in hammocks slung between beams?

There are bundled hammocks on the mess deck, and overhead beams to sling them from. Or you could just curl up in a corner somewhere; it isn’t cold, and the motion of the ship is mild.

Hmmn…

Derp. I knew that. Had a brain fart when typing. I fixed it up.

Incidentally, unlike the rest of the party, Hawk does not have the skill Riding (Equine). Your unskilled default is 6.

In an emergency, you could take magical control of the animal. However, a horse is Size Modifier +1, doubling the energy cost of the Control Mammal or Animal Possession spell.

Is Thwips burning glass a clear magnifying glass type lens or like a lighthouse’s fresnel lens?

Burning Glass (TL2). Handheld lenses and mirrors were occasionally used to focus sunlight. They’re fragile, expensive, and only useful in clear sunlight. Polished metal mirror or natural quartz ground into a lens (TL2): $40, 1 lb. Clear glass lens (TL3): $20, 0.5 lb

So theres nothing in the rules that says it cant double as a magnifying lens

If it’s TL3 (which it is) then it is a magnifying lens, albeit a cheap one of imperfect regularity.

Thwip could likely make something better (TL4), but that would take some time.

I’ll keep it as a down-time activity.

Are the Wazifi prone to making underground fortresses?

Not that you’re aware of.

Most of al-Wazif is flat grassland. Not really cave country.

Okay.

Also, what year is it? If it was mentioned I missed it.

Uggh. A 6? That’s about a 10% chance of success per roll.

I suppose the best Hawk can do, short of taking control, is to make the horse well-disposed towards him. It should, at least, make the ride a bit easier.

Anno Domini 2005.

Remember the x2 energy cost for a SM+1 subject…

The Magic guide says that’s for Animal Control, not for Beast Soother.

Any Regular spell. See p11.

Stops you from trivially charming dragon-sized monsters.

How well versed would Thwip (or one of the other characters) be in the history of the Crusades era? I don’t want to have any meta slip in

Thwip is Megalan, so he’d be aware of the basics.

The people of Yrth have a relatively good grasp of Earth history up until the Crusades, and a very fuzzy idea of Earth history after that. To Thwip, “the Crusades” mostly means the Megalan wars against al-Kard, al-Wazif and al-Haz.

Ah. And fatigue comes back at 1/minute?

I’d imagine that we will be spending at least 5 minutes getting organized after meeting the horses, so I’ll spend the 5 fatigue (with the 15-point-skill savings) and get the full 6-point reaction roll. After all, it’s not like I have to maintain the spell.
