No U Turn
Carey. No. Thanks, but no. Please. No. You really shouldn’t. DON’T. Please. Nooooooooooooooooooooooo!
We cut down an old white oak in our front yard last year. I think this is just one of several tree frog refugees who have been protesting the atrocity at my front door this year.
Be careful! This green fella is really beautiful. But it can be dangerous!
can those be people-food or just for animals?
They’re people food too, but you have to be good at picking them, as many are not sweet, especially if they’re wild. Then there’s the processing: Mona doesn’t mind that they’re covered in spines and glaucids, but getting them all off for human consumption is a lot of effort.
We made syrup one year (oh, yeah, and harvesting is fraught with peril), and it is insanely sweet. Both the color and flavor are closer to what you might expect out of a Jolly Rancher. Good for cocktails, though.
I have a a bunch of prickly pear cactus in my yard. They are prolific, and I am not in love. The stink bugs are though. They swarmed me the one year I harvested them - nasty! That plus the amount of effort involved made it a one-time thing.
Camping in the Cathedral Ranges. Today’s visitors have included a few Pied Currawongs and some high-floof Eastern Grey Kangaroos, including one with a joey.
Hoping for a dusk visit by wombats.
Some very good, very powerful pictures.
Do not click if all you want is unicorn chasers.
