We have one silly woodpecker that taps on the high voltage band on the utility pole in our backyard, but we’ve ever heard heard his chirp/call. My husband and I spotted another woodpecker at Cal Poly Pomona a few weeks ago and it literally sounded like Woody Woodpecker. It made my day.

Many years ago, in the spring, one woodpecker liked the noise he made tapping on the stainless steel fireplace chimney top, which made quite a racket.

We have a steel drummer (and at my last house as well); Gila woodpeckers. Mercifully they usually don’t start too early in the morning, and they only seem to do it for a brief period each year…the annual territory renegotiation, perhaps.

I just played this, and the little girl cat RAN to the window.
She is sitting there confused, looking all over for the sparrows. (They’re usually right outside making those noises in the afternoon. )
