Aww, why let the kids have all the fun?
Xuxu, the tuxedo cat, is being locked in the room for almost one month. Yesterday Greta, the tabby cat, managed to invade the âcellâ and saw him face to face.I thought they were going to fight because she hissed whenever we opened the bedroom door.
I think they are just playing around, or testing their limits. Xuxu is already an adult, while she is a baby yet. He doesnât seem to like playing very much, he keeps to himself, when she approaches, he lays down and shows his belly. I think itâs a sign that he doesnât want to fight. She stays behind him all the time, but when she fights back, she runs away, because he is much bigger.
To keep things from escalating, We restricted the time they spend together and try to maintain strict supervision so that playtime doesnât turn into a turf war.
I am surprised the cat did not try to lay down in the box⊠paints be damned!
Sheâs weird. Doesnât usually go for sleeping in boxes. She likes to put toys in them and bat the toy around or chew up the cardboard ones, but not sleep.
I canât remember for sure, but I think youâre right.

I liked it a lot. Helped me understand my feline friends. They really are quite expressive, despite what some people think.
That sounds like a good slow intro. You are so patient! You can also try feeding them treats when they are close but cannot touch (like with Xuxu in his carrier) if they find treats enjoyable. Also feed treats on or near something that smells like the other kitty. Swap kitty beds, or a towel one has been laying on. Letâs the other get a good sniff and associates that smell with yummy treats.
Jackson Galaxy, of My Cat From Hell fame also recommends putting the cats on either side of a closed door at feeding time. They are aware of each othersâ presence, and can hear and smell each other, and they begin to associate the other cat with pleasurable experiences like feeding time.
How are these birds? They seem to be quite smart and lively. I found their plumage very beautiful with those bluish shades.
Even though theyâre big enough to scare off the other birds theyâre fairly shy. Usually they swoop onto the feeder, grab a peanut, then fly back to the safety of a tree. You usually hear them loudly announce their presence (Jay! Jay Jay!)
the bluejays that i feed are not shy! yes, they squawk - loudly - and start swooping in while i am filling the peanut buckets! they donât take no shite from the other birdies, but if a squirrel wants a peanut, they scatter.
there are about 6 regulars and they are very entertaining to watch as they do their aerial routine. my little flying circus.
I have a lot of raptor activity in my area. The local Coopers hawks will occasionally pick a bird off. The red-tailed hawks will go for the squirrels too.
ahh. that would be a deterrent.
i think the overpopulation of street chickens here is testament to our lack of raptors.
Look what I found! Thereâs a whole catalog. Not sure if anyone here has already posted itâŠ
We knew weâd be gone for several hours so we put out the lines of nuts, normally we wait til someone asks.
We also have blue jays that love peanuts, the starlings also vacuum up the nuts.
This guy/gal took up residence in our extra squirrel house. Babies in the spring if weâre lucky.
It was a lucky deduction. I watched as he stopped whatever he was doing, lay down on the floor and let her see his white belly. This didnât seem like a threatening posture, quite the contrary, it seemed to say âEnough! I give up.â
Obrigado. Thanks for the tip. Iâve heard about this author for a long time. I am most used to these cute cartoon infographics, like this one by Lili Chin. These posters and the little experience I had with my sisterâs cats are what I have of information to deal with the felines here at home.
Last night, for example, the cat started to shake, lowered her head and coughed loudly. She was breathing hard with her mouth open and was clearly not well. My wife, who never had a pet, was terrified. I picked up the cat and saw that she was fine, she was just trying to spit up a hairball.
Iâm generally more relaxed. My wife is more concerned with the welfare of animals. I think we try to find a balance.
Indeed. Cats are graceful, yet more complicated creatures. Theyâre not like dogs, so theyâre a little harder to understand. But as soon you âbreakâ the code, you can enjoy the silent company of them.
It was. But Greta broke the rules and saw him in all of his grace. Now they will have to learn how to peacefully coexist.
ThatÂŽs the problem. She doesnÂŽt like treats! She just love dry cat foodâŠ
Anything she likes to eat will work as a treat!
Every other day, we quarantined her in the room where Xuxu was confined. She used to sleep on his pillow.
One of my favorite expressions isnât on that poster: when theyâre so happy that their tails are standing straight up and they quiver the tail. So squee!
Great site. Thanks for sharing.
I thought they were more like crows, magpies or even Kiskadees.
Regional differences!
