First reacc: Your mom has an extremely tall chimney
Good news about the humming birds. I will carry forward with my plan to make simple syrup for them this weekend.
She has an apartment in an assisted living place, all the apartments have their own furnace. I have no idea what the chimney is for, maybe an old incinerator.
Here’s Frankie the foster on our built-in cat tree:
And check this out - the first photo is from after he’d already gone in for his first check and had put on one pound, the second is from this morning:
Filling out!
He really is! He acts like a starved creature now. I think the vaccines, dewormers and boosters he was getting were messing with his tummy but now he’s over it and making up for lost time.
Taking him for his next health check tomorrow.
His fur looks soooooo much healthier! Go foster kitteh, go!
I read that as “maple syrup” at first and thought your birds must be the luckiest birds on earth…
makes this little guy washed out and pale against the gumbo limbo trees.
he dropped by this morning for a knosh.
So, I managed to catch Dulce (the stray mama kitty) after breakfast today and took her to the veterinarian.
She got a de-worming medication, an ear cleaning, an eye cleaning and medicated drops, and two shots to deal with a respiratory infection. The vet confirmed that she had her kittens because she is lactating, but I have not seen any of them yet.
Saturday, but likely Monday, we’ll return to the vet and I’ll have her spayed for the future. I just wish I could catch Botas, the tom who is impregnating all the cats near my house.
How are you trying to catch the amorous holdout?
If it’s a standard live trap with a spring loaded door, research drop traps. Those hard to trap guys are more likely to go under then into a trap. If you already have a live trap it will be easier to transfer kitty from the drop trap to the live trap for transportation.
Lots of videos available to show how they work. They are easier to use if you have a window nearby to run the trigger string into your house.
We set one up once by getting the cat used to an outdoor feeder, once he was comfortable eating it was just a matter of running a string so we could trigger it from a distance inside our house.
If you’re handy you can make one but store bought ones make it easier to transfer the cat once you you have it.
Spaying and neutering as many ferals as possible is a very good thing. We’ve done many over the years. Our neighborhood seems to be feral free finally except for the one that hangs out in our yard who has been spayed.
Good luck.
