Such cuties, so tiny still!
Mama Dulce looks like she’s gained some weight maybe?
Nice save, kind human!
A little, but she’s still kind of lean. I’m giving them all the calories I can…
ETA: The vet says one more round of antibiotics tomorrow, and they’ll be good to go until they’re ready for their vaccines.
I think this squirrel shot is going to end up on the wall. What you can’t see, but I have a photo, is my wife kneeling down about 12 inches away from Mrs.Squirrel right at eye level. She was talking to her asking when we can expect grand babies. We think she may be pregnant, her nipples are a lot more visible the last couple weeks. But I ain’t no squirrel baby doctor so we wait and see.
And ducky foster mom swam by while I was cutting the grass. We counted 20 babies.
We have too many hawks and eagles (and snapping turtles), so no duck, goose, or swan family ever gets to raise more than 2-4 babies to adulthood, and some years they lose them all within the first week.
We have a lot of families of geese ducks and swans. It is sad when the babies start disappearing.
The wife is the bird person in our house, her bird groups say those babies probably are not all from the same mom.
Waterfowl take care of multiple broods for various reasons.
Whatever the reason they sure are fun to watch feeding in our canal.
The girl (pink nose) looks much like her mama, but the boy (black nose) is high-contrast dark grey and white stripes (mostly belly). He’s going to be handsome.
What did you just imply about the Mama!!!
Michael Palin (of Monty Python fame) touched on that in one of the episodes of his travel program, Brazil with Michael Palin. Upon seeing the bird and learning its name/call, he went “Bem-te-viiiii! Bem-te-viiiii!” in a funny voice.
Geese will take turns babysitting
Yep. Most of the articles I found in a casual search are about Canada geese, but I’ve seen the ones here in Texas do it too. And ducks. We lived in an apartment complex with this nice green area the local geese liked. They’d hang out and brood. Four adults would be responsible for 20 or so babies. Except when crossing the street, when more adults would spread out and yell at any cars. The only time the damned things cared about cars was when the goslings were crossing. Otherwise, they DNGAF. Would just stand there in the road with you honking at them. Wouldn’t look at you. Sometimes they’d stop waking and stand there, in front of your car. We called them suicide geese, though I never saw any dead. It was a residential street and everyone seemed pretty resigned to travel on that street taking longer because of geese moving from the green areas to the pond.
Love Canada Geese.

Do not get me started on Canada geese!
The only thing related in any way to Canada that I actively hate with a passion.
