Other way around. Hanged drawn and quartered. Quartering being the fatal part.
They are massive and complex machines.
… and yet, they are anything but irreplaceable. I’ve worked on modern factory floors, and I’m marginally impressed at best. A country that built most of the International Space Station, runs most of the Internet, and despite decades of outsourcing still has a huge manufacturing base, should be able to install a few glorified conveyor belts with OCR within a month, IF the government were to take the task seriously. Hand the companies that specialize in those things enough money, like, a fraction of what is thrown at failed defense projects alone, annualy, and you should be good. There’s only one scenario where this being an “impossible” task makes sense, but I guess I’m preaching to the choir.
“Body is to similar to what you recently posted.”
But I’m going to keep posting it. Should be the first post in every political thread.
“drawn and quartered”; as in, stripped for parts?
They’re stripping our democracy for parts right now…
But definitely not good for parts if malfunctioning due to inherent design flaws. Best to just melt it down and start over.
That’s assuming their leadership is sufficiently motivated to replace such machinery in the next 30 days. The timing on this intentional destruction was perfectly aligned with the need. First, we’d have to replace DeJoy with a leader wanting to take on such a Herculean task, and that act alone will take more than 30 days. Actually (not theoretically!) replacing these machines in time for them to help deliver ballots in this election is literally impossible.
And if you don’t have a car?
THIS.
I just received my mail-in ballot and will leave it unopened, in order to trade it in for a ballot at the polling place on the day. Florida does not start counting mail ballots until after the polls close and with the state’s track record for stopping vote counts (Bush v. Gore 2000) and all the shenanigans surrounding mail ballots, and the fact that DeSantis is a trump ass-kisser - whew - I need my vote counted! What with all of this big “election night winner takes all” bullshit that is going to go down, I need to be sure in order to deny the asshole even that short-term victory
Live organ transplants.
MR. BROWN: Listen! I can’t give it to you now. It says, ‘in the event of death’. Uh. Oh! Ah. Ah. Eh.
MAN: No one who has ever had their liver taken out by us has survived.
MR. BROWN: Agh.
ERIC: Just lie there, sir. It won’t take a minute.
MR. BROWN: [screaming]
MAN: Zip it up.
MR. BROWN: [screaming]
MRS. BROWN: 'Ere. What’s going on?
MAN: Uh, he’s donating his liver, madam.
MR. BROWN: [screaming]
MRS. BROWN: Is this because he took out one of those silly cards?
MAN: That’s right, madam.
Bus? Put it in another envelope and Fedex it to your cousin who lives in a red district for remailing? The best solution would be to revive the USPS before the election, but since that isn’t going to happen there should be options for people in blue pockets of red or swing purple states who rightly worry that their mail delivery might be targeted as a form of GOP election fraud.
The post title indicates:
Postmaster DeJoy says removed mail sorting machines were stripped for parts…
But, per the quoted blurb from him, he actually says:
…are generally dissembled for their usable parts, with such parts being removed to maintain or enhance other machines…
This leads me to believe he wants to give the impression they were stripped for parts to maintain other machines, but his weasel language use of the phrase “are generally” doesn’t actually state that is what happened with these machines.
The speed with which this was done doesn’t suggest a careful salvage operation.
Still, the effect is probably the same: Some portion (most?) of the machines have likely been rendered pretty irreparable.
demisery is a miserable, evil bastard, just like all the rethugs.
Just think of all the people whose lives would be saved if Postmaster DeJoy were “stripped for parts.”
yeah, those englishmen were certainly a bloodthirsty bunch. (The women found guilty of treason were burnt at the stake)
"That you the several prisoners at bar be severally taken from hence to the place from whence you came and thence be severally drawn on a hurdle the place of execution and there be hanged by the neck but not until you are dead but that you be taken down again and that whilst you yet alive your bowels to be taken out burnt before your faces and that your heads be severed from bodies and your bodies be divided into four quarters and your heads quarters to be at the King’s disposal And may God have mercy on your souls " (1813)
This is the neoliberist economic school idea, so is also present in other conservative and neoliberist parties worldwide.
For universal services there are surely uneconomic parts that don’t make revenue. To mantain a bus service in a town in the middle of nowhere a state owned bus company will do it at a big loss, and a private company will ask the state money to mantain service, so at the end either the service is cut or subsidized. Some money will be saved because the number of bus rises is cut and the private company will use some beaten old clunkerwith bald tyres.
It’s more like the Republicans in the state legislature pass a law forbidding cities from having municipal bus service and then spend tens of millions of dollars offering ludicrous tax incentives to a corporation to deign to offer a bus service in the cities that need it (because jobs). When the bus service inevitably proves unprofitable, the corporation reneges on their agreement and withdraws service. Then the Republicans blame overregulation and the Democrats in the city council.
Why can’t this bastard be forced to pay for the machines he had removed; isn’t he a multi-millionaire?
Well, dissembling means lying, so it does work well for him, especially in this situation
