Rutherford gets stuck in the game so he decides to speed run it to get out
Yeah “Journey’s End” was… something. It’s been consistently ranked as one of the worst Next Generation episodes for good reason.
To all my fellow Trekkies here, with the way boingboing is changing and not wanting to give any money to substack I am going to miss this thread and all of you. It has been a pleasure to geek and enjoy Trek together. This has been the one place on the internet where I have ever found to be the best place to speak with fellow trekkers. No argument about what show is better, or how much the new shows suck or the constant whines and complains about “canon.” Just pure joy and love for Star Trek. Even when any critiscm has come up, it has been constructive and thoughtful.
LLAP to you all.
I’ve enjoyed your company as well as everyone else who’s pulled a seat up at the table.

The episode was written by Melinda M. Snodgrass. The story was intended to be a commentary about immigration, because she hated the xenophobic attitude she was seeing, the whole “We don’t want them because they’re the wrong color, don’t speak the language, or don’t have the right religion.” In her opinion “what makes America vibrant is the fact we have all these cultures.”
but it gets weirder;
The title “Up the Long Ladder” is taken from an Irish anti-Protestant rhyme: “Up the long ladder, Down the short rope. To hell with King Billy! Three cheers for the Pope!”
