Rep. Dean Phillips officially announces Democratic run against President Biden (video)

Biden’s policies are a lot more progressive than most people expected, and a whole lot of people don’t seem to realize that. Because he looks and sounds and feels conservative, apparently. It’s genuinely interesting to see.

To be fair, he had been a pretty centrist to conservative Democrat his entire career before becoming President, so I can’t really blame people for not noticing that his Presidency has been more progressive than most of us expected.

True, but even looking back it makes some sense - he’s always prided himself on his work within the Senate with regards to bipartisan compromising… it makes sense that he would do the same within the party as president, in order to keep progressives in the party.

But yeah, I think his record was much more centrist for sure…

I didn’t know Cenk had thrown his hat into the ring, and that makes me sad. I thought he was way more practical than this.

Back in the day, I had a 1997 Mitsubishi Montero Sport whose FM radio ceased to function. Air America was my refuge in an AM sea of crap, and the Young Turks were a breath of fresh air. RFK, Jr., was there, too, but so was Thom Hartmann. That’s where I first heard about Bernie Sanders - Hartmann did Friday Brunch with Bernie.

I do miss Air America! Stephanie Miller, Randi Rhodes, Ed Schultz - before he went to RTI.

We’re not gonna take it!

I really would like to see someone else other than Biden fielded. But I don’t think the party nor most of the base wants to change horses - and even if they did, there just is not someone high profile and likable that we are clamoring for.

Many people would vote for AOC in a heartbeat and do it proudly. Many, many more would run to the Republicans.

I sincerely think she is doing excellent work right where she is now. While I think that her presidency will be a turning point for the US, I don’t think it will happen for at least another decade.

Some of the Young Turks have also become a little TERFy, so I’m kinda done with them anyway.

I would suspect you are right. We need to shove the Overton window back to the left quite a bit and mainstream progressive politics for a while before a truly progressive candidate will have a viable shot at the presidency.

Oh! I didn’t know that!

Kinda like RFK, then - not making sense a couple of decades later. So sad!

Given that you have to 45to run for President she isn’t even eligible yet

35, not 45.

No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.

AOC is only one year short of the 35 age minimum. I hope she makes noise in the next cycle!

Ana Kasparian, to be specific, has been echoing a lot of TERF talking points.

The same reason I have banned Bill Maher from my streaming fare.

It’s sad to see otherwise thoughtful folks go off the deep end.

Especially when so much is at stake!

My oops! Thanks for fixing it!

Point of order: I would submit that whatever the theory and etymology, the current practice and self-labelling would imply that “Moderate Republican” just means the ones who are “crypto-fascist” or “fascist enabling”, as opposed to the openly, even gleefully fascist (checks notes) other 95% of them.

Yes, two of you have felt the need to tell me this. I’m not sure why, especially since the question at hand was more about what was meant by a moderate Democrat, but I’m well aware that there’s nothing very moderate about modern moderate Republicans. I have made that very point myself multiple times lately on other posts.
