The harder they try to deny reality, the harder it’s going to bash them in the face eventually. Facts remain true even if you hide your head in the sand (or in MTG’s case, deep, deep up her own posterior).
It doesn’t matter to her reality-challenged base, she’ll just use the failure to achieve an imaginary thing as justification to milk more $$ from them.
Ahhh, if only she said the impeachments needed to be erased from history because they were “Orwellian.”
It’s probably as difficult as wrongful conviction on drug charge for BIPOC people. /S
Empty-G apparently thinks insurrection is the same as speeding ticket. She would be surprised to know how other nations deal with their traitors
Except there is a legally defined procedure for doing that, even if it’s an unreasonably difficult hurdle to clear in practice.
There is no constitutional provision for appealing or expunging an impeachment. If he’d been convicted in the Senate (as he would have been if we had a functional legislature) there would have been nothing left to do about it, even if later evidence showed he was completely innocent of wrongdoing.
I still can’t believe FTG’s social network is called “truth”.
I wish it were true, but it seems to be working the opposite way for the Republican party. They’ve long held unpopular policy positions contrary to what they at least publicly imply are their positions, and even go so far as to explicitly deny them. They consistently take credit for legislation they voted against. MTG and her ilk are the logical end point - politicians who don’t even have policy goals, who write no legislation, who don’t even necessarily vote on the legislation they claim to care about, and who exist purely to meaninglessly grandstand and attention-grab so that their non-district voters will give them more money.
We all know this isn’t sustainable. It’s going to end very badly for them. The only uncertainty is whether it will be just as bad or worse for all the rest of us.
That’s when you kick 'em in their necks.
It seems like it would be pretty sustainable when journalism is withering and social media provides the perfect echo-chamber for party members. At least where Republicans have a majority.
On the other hand, it does feel like it might be falling apart right now because the dynamic’s been too successful. Since Republican voters don’t know what’s going on but will support them whatever they actually do, they’ve become increasingly beholden to an ever-smaller faction who actually want the unpopular policies, but that strategy provides them with no appeal to anyone outside the party echo-chamber. So they can only win if Republicans are (can engineer themselves into) the majority of voters, leading to the current attempt to destroy democracy. They’re definitely trying to make it worse for the rest of us…
In the very short term, sure, it’s sustainable. I’m talking about bigger picture stuff. If the fascists win, they’ll destroy the USA and whatever they replace it with will be short-lived, though the suffering will be immense. If they don’t win, it’s a stalemate until either Civil War 2 or America finally getting its shit together peacefully and kicking these traitors out of positions of power (the best solution, but the least likely from the look of things). And if nothing else, continued global warming denialism will eventually come home to roost. We should have been concentrating our entire efforts as a species towards that problem decades ago and collapsing ecosystems and freak weather don’t care what political party you are. Billionaires and crooked politicians are only acting in their own self-interest if you look at the short term- in the long run, by not trying to build a better world they’re murdering everyone, including themselves. And things have gotten so bad that I think it’s finally likely that most of them won’t have time to die of old age before we all feel the consequences.
MTG: “Our guy is completely innocent and all evidence should be deleted from history…but Hilary is GUILTY GUILTY GUILTY and should be hounded until the end of time!!!”
She may be dumb, but she sure is stupid!*
*Thank you, Doug. It’s a ahem genius line.
