As an aside, my dog tries to lick my cat too. She is clearly being affectionate, but the cat doesn’t really dig it. The cat will tolerate a bit of it but then will just leave. Once when the dog followed to continue, the cat turned, stood up on her legs, and batted the dog on the nose (claws in) just to clarify her feelings. It seemed to work.
