Thank you!
There is some evidence that Teboil kept tank fuel reserves, in the case the Soviets would invade. These were discontinued after the collapse of the Soviet Union.
I just saw a video, you don’t need to see it, of the Russian army driving a tank* over a car driving down the road.
Kind of solidified for me why American Republicans are pro Putin.
That and a Spiked editorial blaming it on the West not being sufficiently bigoted against trans people.
*Fuck off ammosexuals. I don’t care about "Actualy it’s… "
I don’t know… I mean… maybe he’s not the nth level chess player everyone believes him to be and he just royally fucked himself into a corner that he can’t get out of?
Also, a reminder that part of what actually ended the invasion of Kosovo was not just the aerial bombing, but the Serbian people coming out on the street and proclaiming that it was way past time to end the aggressions. It seems like at least some of the Russian people have decided that, too.
A large rocket landed in the middle of the street near the National Guard academy in Kharkiv
Everytime I see that (an unexploded bomb) I think of that Iranian film, Under the Shadow, which the action starts with an unexploded bomb through the roof of an apartment building…
The Taliban called on Russia and Ukraine to resolve the crisis through “peaceful means.”
You will be relieved to know that the driver of the car survived (the preview is wrong, the link goes to the correct story):
There’s a video of passers by helping him out of the wreckage:
Doesn’t make it any less sickening that some Russian asshole deliberately swerved out of his lane to crush a civilian car just driving by.
The Turkish foreign minister has said Turkey cannot stop Russian warships accessing the Black Sea via its straits, as Ukraine has requested, due to a clause in an international pact.
Ah yes, gotta respect those international pacts with Russia. Since they will definitely return the favor in good faith.
That’s amazing the man survived, that car is completely wrecked. Hats off to the passers-by that helped him, prying open a car with hand tools and a few guys is no easy feat!
Telling it like it is.
Thank goodness! I have been feeling sick ever since I saw that video.
I needed that.
Beau of the Fifth Column has covered this on a number of his videos. His analysis is that it would require a mistake on each side, but that the more rapidly things are evolving, the more likely that is to happen. Basically, the possibility has gone from unimaginable to unlikely. Not a progression I am very happy with. I am not an expert in this field, and am relying on the analyses of folks who know far more than I do. The fact that they seem to have also gone from “don’t worry, be happy” to “holy shit, this could happen” is pretty scary.
Well, yeah, that’s why I qualified the statement in the post, and reiterated that it isn’t a reason not to impose sanctions.
There is a danger of looking at everything through the lens of local politics. This is an invasion of one country by another, not a catfight between the Tories and Labour (in your country), or between the Democrats and the Death Cult-tankie coalition in mine.
If Johnson and Starmer spend question time arguing over which party is coziest with the oligarchs, it will just distract them from doing what they ought to be doing immediately, namely freezing Russian transactions (many of which run through the City) and pressuring the EU to cut off Russia’s access to SWIFT.
“Yeah, the guy who lives down the street keeps murdering his neighbors, but we shouldn’t antagonize him too much. What if we need to borrow some sugar later?”
It can’t be stressed what a rare feat this is these days.
I believe the last US ace was in Vietnam. Some of the last aces world wide were in the Iran - Iraq war and before that Arab-Israeli wars.
And in a Fulcrum MiG-29, my favorite Russian jet!
Go Ghost!
Cavusoglu added that Turkish legal experts were still trying to determine whether the conflict in Ukraine could be defined as a war, which would allow the convention mandates to be invoked.
WTF?
I think this can be safely translated as “Turkey is looking for a loophole to avoid making Putin angry.” Not that other countries (Looking a chancellor Scholz here) are doing better.
Right now it’s unconfirmed, though. Given only 7 Russian jets reported downed, total, and air battles happening all over the country, this isn’t too likely.
Steve Ritchie.
Said like a person that clearly has a lot of very specific jet preferences!
Warning - graphic and disturbing.
Awful.
Yes! So you know this came up somewhere else and the driver is ok. I mean, not ok, he was run over by a fucking tank, but you know what I mean
