"Our population has split into two camps. On one hand there are those who support Putin; on the other, there are those who can read, write, and reach logical conclusions."

Sounds a lot like the USA.

Authorities said they had received a complaint that Dolgopolov had been “insulting the feelings of believers”.

Any chance there is a similar law for insulting the feelings of non-believers?

How many KGB agents does it take to screw in a light bulb?

Two. One to screw it in and the other to check the microphones.

Authoritarian leaders never like people making fun of them, do they.

This whole situation brings to mind a Soviet-era joke I heard:

One afternoon, Stalin is talking at the Politburo, and he says to all of his underlings- “Comrades, it is good to work hard, but every man needs to relax as well. Every man needs a hobby. For instance- I like to collect jokes that people tell about me.”
Beria rushes to agree with him “Yes, Comrade Stalin- I also have a similar hobby- I collect the people who tell the jokes.”

Always topical: George Carlin on religion.

Gets a huge guffaw from me when he first starts in with “If there is a God, may he strike…” [don’t want to spoil the joke from there]

It’s his own fault for not getting with the program.

I have to think we’re getting awfully close to this sort of thing in the good ol USA. We’re probably one tragedy away from full on open season on anyone who dares criticize Trump, in some areas at least.
