He seems to have an extreme case of engineer’s disease, leading to delusions of grandeur.

So he’s Elon Musk without the money.

I’ve got a friend living/reporting in Ukraine, says a while ago the town squares and cafes were filled with guys like this looking to make a name for themselves, as brokers of peace or recruiters for war. Eventually they fade away as they run out of funds or support.

They’re trying to turn someone’s misery into an opportunity to be a White Savior. Listen to my half-assed improbable solution if you want to live… of course no one does and the conflict continues and these nut-jobs mutter “should have listened to me… I am the chosen one”.

Methinks they get too much credit for their non-results, spoken about like they actually played a significant role or had a viable solid plan… like a gdamn peace envoy anointed by God herself.

No… just a whackdoodle, loudest drunk at the bar who knows better than anyone.

You forgot to include he asked Elon Musk to sell him a cheap, used rocket so he could give it to Ukraine. It didn’t have to work well because it would be making a one way trip.

Also was an avid supporter of Vivec and Nikki, demanding them to get back in the race to fight against Trump.

He’s a fan who went from love to hate. He wasn’t, despite his $140 total donations to the dem party 4 years ago, an “stalwart liberal democrat” as he’s been described.

So, at this point we have a would-be assassin who was a Republican, and a presumed would-be assassin who was specifically a former Trump supporter. Republicans are claiming that the Democrats’ over-heated rhetoric about Trump is inspiring these attempts, yet their rhetoric is, in fact, under-heated if anything, not even fully describing what a violent fascist threat to democracy Trump is, while Trump and his allies engage in violent fascist rhetoric. So clearly, if there’s any external inspiration for these plots, there’s really no argument to be made that it could be anything but Trump himself (and his allies like Alex Jones).

I expected the MAGA movement to inflict violence to itself at some point (as a right-wing political cult full of purity tests to be failed, that was inevitable), I didn’t expect they’d start out with Trump, though…

If you were a majorly disaffected Trumpist, would there be any other likely target?

He’s destroyed the party, got rid of anyone with a shred of political acumen, and replaced them with lickspittle acolytes organised into a Dear Leader personality cult with the purpose of keeping him gratified and out of gaol. He gives 0 fuccs for the conservative future because apres lui, le deluge.

So a guy with a lengthy criminal record tried to kill someone with dozens of felony convictions?

Criminal-on-criminal violence isn’t good, of course, but I’m especially relieved no innocent bystanders were hurt. When bad guys start shooting at each other, you never know who will get hit.
