Caffeine mixed with alcohol seems unheard of here in the U.S.
I guess if you’re going to spend a fair bit to get drunk, it can feel like a waste of money to just pass out.

It was banned in 2010 because of reports of alcohol poisoning and blackouts mostly on college campuses.
Regular alcohol poisoning and blackouts on college campuses doesn’t seem to be a concern.

I didn’t know that, but I’ve just finished reading Nancy Goldstone’s excellent books about the tangled geopolitics of 17th and 18th century Europe.
With all the pointless squabbles, shifting alliances, broken treaties, and auctioning of marriageable daughters in that era, the odd alliance of the Pope and William the Third is hardly a blip.
