Madison police are investigating a suspicious arson and vandalism incident at Wisconsin Family Action, a conservative Christian organization that opposes abortion, on the city’s north side.
Flames were seen coming from the building shortly after 6 a.m. The Madison Fire Department responded and put out the fire, according to an incident report from the Madison Police Department. No injuries were reported.
MPD officers and arson investigators are working to determine a cause. Police said a Molotov cocktail, which did not ignite, was thrown inside the building, and it appeared a separate fire was started.
“It appears a specific nonprofit that supports anti-abortion measures was targeted,” Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes said in a statement. “Our department has and continues to support people being able to speak freely and openly about their beliefs, but we feel that any acts of violence, including the destruction of property, do not aid in any cause.”
Graffiti spray-painted in cursive outside the office declared, “If abortions aren’t safe then you aren’t either.”

Last week, following the horrifying leaked draft of Justice Samuel Alito’s opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson, Chief Justice John Roberts had a fortress-like security gate erected around the Supreme Court to shield the justices from protestors angry about the damage they’re about to unleash on the American people. That’s when you know Alito’s draft decision—bad enough on its face for ending the constitutional right to abortion and returning the rights of pregnant people to the whims of state legislatures—is much more vicious. It’s the Supreme Court’s roadmap to gutting the remaining rights of non-white, non-male, non-cis, non-Christian people. It’s also an invitation to states to pass the most retrograde laws imaginable, knowing they’ll eventually reach this very fascist-friendly Court.
This article basically breaks down how this decision will fuck over a lot of people and allow for a lot of precedent to be overturned. It’s not anything that hasn’t been discussed here since the draft opinion leaked, but scary as fuck reading it all at once.
