Sean Spicer defends handcuffing a 5-year-old American boy for hours at an airport immigration checkpoint

I wonder how Sean Spicer’s morale is doing right now, as he contemplates the next 1,449 mornings of waking up and going to work and saying these lovely things in front of literally everyone in the world

I think he feels bad.

An aside:

He’s an angry short guy in a too-big suit. Get him a smaller suit and a footrest?

Lose the shoulder pads.

P.S. A poem for 1/31/17

The last press secretary to have endured a full term worked for the Carter administration. (It’s probably an easier job when your boss isn’t 100% full of shit all the time.)

Kids are human as long as they’re on the right side of the womb…the minute that little brown face dares show up, watch out.

What kind of soulless subhuman son of a bitch could ever look themselves in the face after doing something like that to a little guy. My five year old Nieto is totally capable of cause terminal smiles when he laughs or makes a face. Beyond that he’s fierce on cookies

“Wimp” John Brady was only shot once. Not even fatally and he ducks out of a press briefing? SAD!

I know you’re kidding, but James Brady’s injury was fatal (and ruled a homicide,) it just took 33 years.

I’m channeling Trump and how we all know he would have reacted. Facts hang no meaning.

Not at all.

For the record: there are no “alternative facts”. There are facts, and there are douchebaggeries…

Are you a douchebag?

That’s the one word to describe these people. Another word is heartless.

I don’t think he feels more or less bad than the horrible stinking hell of bad that he already feels all the time and thinks is normal.

[Sean Spice] said: “To assume that just because of someone’s age and gender that they don’t pose a threat would be misguided and wrong.”

Right, it’s usually the 5-year-old American girls that are the obvious terrorist threats.

This is faux feel-good security, like no-fly-lists that block toddlers in diapers because they have the same name as someone else. If the only smarts in their system is a name-match, it’s not real security, it’s feel-good mush.

Six-year-old Syed Adam Ahmed has been flagged as a travel risk since he was a toddler, his family says. Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale is now investigating his case.

“It’s a very mysterious process,” said Colin Bennett, a University of Victoria political science professor who studies surveillance and privacy.

“I think it’s likely to be something that is going to follow him [Syed] and his family and his name for a very long time.”

Remember: Everyone is within six degrees of Kevin Bacon a terrorist!

I think Spicer is finally acknowledging that toddlers shoot more Americans on US soil than foreign-born terrorists do.

I’m just curious to WHYYYYYY the airports, security, cops, etc are so quick to jump on “oh this is the law now? do this now??” - like is there any human thought to “oh wait this is kind of fucked up and i’m human and not a puppet…” - or is that just the nature of these jobs, “i’m only following orders”. Which is why i’ve always found it hard to swallow the whole “Support Our Troops” propaganda, (support our troops following orders of govenrment officials to do their bidding which a majority of the public would actually disagree with). Jeezus.

THOUGHT EXPERIMENT: Imagine if a foreign government had done this to a 5-year-old American citizen at one of their airports despite him having all the proper travel documents in order. The outrage from the right would be deafening.

We are treating our own citizens worse than we expect other nations to treat them.

Because those jobs are highly attractive to authoritarian shitstains, and the culture within the departments tends to be such that the non-authoritarians are rapidly weeded out.

The TSA hires against competence and intelligence. They know it’s a liability if their agents are any good at reasoning and logic.

While it’s common knowledge that orgs like ICE and customs and border patrol are packed with conspiracy nuts and paranoid people.

If you think cop culture is callus and weird, the federales who have even more power and more to prove are worse.

When you are the big man with the badge and gun, and have never gotten in trouble for abusing your position, and are trained to treat foreign nationals as less than, it’s easy to think that’s normal.

Guess what happens when the president you likely voted for tells you that your bigotry and fear and hatred is right and desirable?

I’m not afraid of trump. I’m afraid of the people who agree with him. The people who think he has good ideas. The people who submit to him. trump’s a frail, vain, 70 year old man. He’s not particularly scary. I’m afraid of what he’s going to tell people to do.
