I’m wondering if Susan Collins herself isn’t anti-choice or at least she really doesn’t care, but simply knows being pro-choice is the majority opinion and wants to say the right thing. Because the people she claimed were not going to overturn Roe v Wade were clearly always intending to, which raises the question of whether she made those claims to try to convince herself or convince us.
In other words, how much of Susan Collins’ actions are down to moral cowardice - not wanting to push back against Republicans going against her principles - and how much is her actively gaslighting us about what she stands for.
She’s a Republican. She knows the people she really serves can afford fly out of state or out of the country if their little darling gets into trouble.
As a Mainer, I have to say this is the most disappointing thing. She has years before her next election, and I’d so been hoping she might use this window of time to stand for convictions that would help her populace. Because we all know most voters have horrible memories. Before T, she wasn’t awesome, but she seemed to care about us, a little. Now she’s shown us over and over that she doesn’t. Blerg.
