Sexy Handmaid's Tale costume removed from sale

Quite well, he even kept the mask afterward.

If I had opted for some kind of caricature instead of a photorealistic representation of his face I imagine the reaction might have been different.

Seems like it, yeah. A good call on your part, I think.

Ah, maybe I’m even more off than I thought.
When I mentioned ‘rote’ criticism, I wasn’t referring to you at all. Your part of the conversation was heart felt and genuine, which is why I even started to converse. I was thinking of all the movie reviews, book reviews, and some cultural critiques that seem to think that you have to find something bad about a work of art, even if you actually like it. Like criticism means being negative. As to the second part of your response, I think you are projecting a little more into what I said than warranted. You weren’t being boring, I was being pedantic and thought I should step back as I was finding myself apologizing (in the academic sense) for something I too find repulsive. You are being a bit presumptive about who I am. Anyway, not the forum to ramble on in.

I wasn’t even thinking of anything contemporary- more thinking of an essay I read about some of the first performers- it was in a book about the origin of jazz, but I can’t remember which one. I never meant to sound like I was defending this choice as a Halloween costume.

That is literally what cultural criticism IS, finding the complications in works of art. Why do we have to accept every thing we like as pure and unproblematic, when it’s made by people, who are themselves imperfect. That’s what makes art compelling, in that it tells us something about the complications in human lives.

I am? I can ONLY go on what you put forth here. I’m making no assumptions about you, I’m only engaging with your words. I didn’t even think I’d made any comments about your personally, just was engaging with your comments.

Having seen your ski mask pic below that post, I saw some kind of fabric 360° print of another persons head in my mind.

Horrifying.

I tried to conquer that feeling thinking of my-hair-is-a-bird GIFs, but I still am rather unsettled by that idea, and being-john-malcovic GIFs keep superimposing on Nicolas Cage. Also, Travolta.

(The level of sheer terror induced if you would unexpectedly confront a PoC in a way like this is even higher, I think. )

Now, is there a service which offers prints on ski masks?

Asking for a friend.

If I were to do a custom printed ski mask type thing, I’d make it look like leather face - a stitched together face on my own.

Oh oh - if you could get the other person in on it, have them have a mask that looks like a face with no skin.
